July 28 Photos for the Dawson County News A landscape by Jasper photographer Mark Green is on display at the "Enchanted Forests" art show at the Bowen Center for the Arts. Opening reception of juried art show this Friday From staff reports This August and September, the Bowen Center for the Arts is hosting a photography com petition for the Georgia Nature Photographers Association. The show, entitled “Enchanted Forests,” opens this Friday with a free reception where the winning photographs will be announced. Thirty-three photographers and more than 80 photo graphs will be on display until Sept. 20. This exhibit contains some of the finest works pro duced by GNPA members from all over Georgia with most works for sale. The winning entries will be announced Aug. 2 during the opening reception from 5-7 p.m. Photographers are competing for $500 First Prize, $250 Second Prize and $125 Third Prize, plus sever al Honorable Mention prize awards. This year’s judges include professional photographers Jack Anthony of Gainesville, Brian Osgood of Jasper, Tom Reed of Dawsonville and Paul Schiemer of Dahlonega. These judges have gathered merits and awards for their photography in their industri ous careers. Photographers accepted into the show hail from across the state of Georgia, including: Harriet Dye, Clay Fisher, Jeff Milsteen, Gail Mitchell, Mike Ramy, Susanne Swing Thompson and Stephen Weiss, all of Atlanta; Lisa Saines of Ball Ground; David Hornsby of Brunwick; Daniel Short of Cornelia; Chris Correnti of Cumming; Janet Newton of Douglasville; Elizabeth Anne Dalton and Jessica Taylor of Dawsonville; James Herndon and Cheryl Tarr of Decatur; Horace Hamilton of Duluth; Susan Perry of Fayetteville; Dan Rhoads of Flowery Branch; Jill Haack of Gainesville; Mary Jo Cox, Gidge Dady, Kathleen Gill, Mark Green and Randy Lewis, all of Jasper; Anna DeStafano, Lori Prosser and Stewart Woodward of Lawrenceville; Mikki Root Dillon of Lilburn; Susan Perez of Loganville; and John Criminger, Connie White and Steve White of Sugar Hill. The Bowen Center for the Arts is always open to the public. The center is just north of Dawsonville’s Historic Square at 334 Highway 9 North. Admission is free.
