Tanner receives award from Georgia Gerontology Society From staff reports State Representative Kevin Tanner (R-Dawsonville) recently received the David Levine Legislative Award from the Georgia Gerontology Society (GGS) during the annual GGS conference. Rep. Tanner was honored for championing and authoring house bills that support transportation efforts that benefit elderly Georgians. “I am honored to receive the David Levine Legislative Award from the Georgia Gerontology Society,” said Tanner. “I believe all Georgians should have access to efficient and dependable transportation services, especially our state’s aging population. I look forward to crafting future legislation to promote transit opportunities to allow elder ly Georgians to live healthy, productive lives.” Vicki Johnson, Chair of the Georgia Council on Aging, presented Rep. Tanner with the award at the GGS conference. “Chairman Tanner has worked tireless ly to bring comprehensive transit cover age to all regions of the state,” said Johnson. “He believes that all who depend on transit for health, education or employment should have access to affordable, safe and reliable systems.” The David Levine Legislative Award was established in 1993 and is given to the legis lator who has sponsored or co-sponsored legislation improving the quality of life for older adults; has supported aging issues; and has listened to concerns of Georgia’s elderly population. This award has been named to honor Dr. David L. Levine, who devoted his adult life advocating for those who could not advocate for themselves. The Georgia Gerontology Society was established in 1955 to be the principal net work of educators, professionals and busi nesses that serve older adults in Georgia. Its awards program recognizes outstanding ser vice or achievement in the field of aging. Representative Kevin Tanner represents the citizens of District 9, which includes Lumpkin County and portions of Dawson and Forsyth counties. He was elected to the House of Representatives in 2012 and cur rently serves as Chairman of the Transportation Committee. He also serves on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Education and the Education, Intragovernmental Coordination, Rules, Natural Resources & Environment and Special Rules committees. Parks originally purchased musk cantaloupe, or "mush melon," seeds from a man inTexas several years ago.
