Dragon Boat Festival 2019 in photos

The Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival
returned to Lake Lanier Olympic Park
in Gainesville on Saturday, Sept. 7, for a
free, all-day event on the water that
included presentations and dances from
Asian culture, races, music and food.
“It’s very exciting,” said Tracy Barth,
deputy festival director. “This has
always been my favorite event for the
community, especially at the Lake
Lanier Olympic Park.”
The festival has been held in
Gainesville at the Olympic venue since
the early 2000s, bringing a cultural
experience that isn’t normally found in
Hall County. The event included presen
tations and dances from Asian culture,
races, music and food.
Abrams to visit north GA

Former Georgia governor candidate
Stacey Abrams will be coming to north
Georgia to meet with 9th District
Democratic Party County Chairs and
those who have decided to run for
office in 2019 and 2020.
She will be giving a speech with the
Fair Fight Action Team Sep. 17 at the
Habersham Recreation Center, located
at 120 Paul Franklin Road in
Clarkesville. The event is co-hosted by
the Dawson County Democratic Party
and the Habersham County Democratic
Party.
Abrams and the Fair Fight Action
Team will be fighting voter suppression
this year and next in many states across
the country, including Georgia.
The Abrams Fair Fight Action Team
will make a presentation at 5:30 p.m.
while Abrams meets with 9th District
candidates. She will make a speech at 6
p.m. and be available for photos after
wards.
Doors open at 5 p.m. Organizers ask
that attendees arrive early as there is
limited seating and request that attend
ees provide a donation to cover the cost
of the two rooms, security, advertising,
refreshments and other items.
