Community The Dawson County Retired Educator Association will host a reception for recent retired educators and friends at its regular monthly meeting at 11:30 a.m. Sept. 17 in the Dawson County Board of Education Professional Devel opment Center. This is a great chance to meet with hiring manag ers of over 17 local businesses 8c resource reps, (including Ba nana Republic Factory Store, Big Canoe POA, BTD Manufacturing, DeVry University, Gold Creek Foods, Hilton Head Hospital ity, Koch Foods, Len Foote Hike Inn, Ninth District Opportu nity, Old Navy, Panera Bread, Pilgrims Pride, Premier Surplus, Tyson Foods, Inc., Waffle House, Wahoo Docks and more) who will conduct inter views on site. Former Georgia governor candidate Stacey Abrams will be coming to north Georgia to meet with 9th District Demo cratic Party County Chairs and those who have decided to run for office in 2019 and 2020 on Sep. 17. She will be giving a speech with the Fair Fight Action Team at the Habersham Recre ation Center, located at 120 Paul Franklin Road in Clarkesville. The event is co-hosted by the Dawson Coun ty Democratic Party and the Habersham County Democratic Party. The Abrams Fair Fight Action Team will make a presentation at 5:30 p.m. while Abrams meets with 9th Dis trict candidates. She will make a speech at 6 p.m. and be available for photos afterwards. Doors open at 5 p.m. Organizers ask that at tendees arrive early as there is limited seat ing and request that attendees provide a donation to cover the cost of the two rooms, security, advertising, refreshments and other items. BRAVE Beyond the Call, a nonprofit dedicated to honor ing local veterans, is hosting the first an nual 22 Strike Out at Stars and Strikes from 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 21. The fundraiser is planned to educate and raise awareness in the community that 22 veterans die each year from suicide. Each team will have a local veteran as their team captain. The cost to bowl in $30 per person which includes two hours of bowl ing, shoe rental and pizza and drinks after the competition. Stars and Strikes is located at 133 Merchants Square in Cumming. The North Georgia Crappie Anglers (NGCA) is hosting its second annual Fishin With Military Heroes fall fishing tourna ment Sept. 28 at Lake Lanier. This event honors all of our mili tary veteran men and women who have ex perienced physical or emotional trauma and is free of charge to all veteran participants. The event is limited to 100 veterans. Lines will be in the water at daylight and weigh-in and lunch is at 1 p.m. at Bolding Mill Park. Prizes will be awards for the largest crap- pies and seven largest crappies. Crappies size limit is 10 inches or larger at weigh-in. Veterans will not need a license, tackle or bait.
