their Annual Charity GolfTournament,
hosted by The Church of the Good
Shepherd, on Monday, May 11, 2020.
Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the
Shotgun starts at 10 a.m. It will be
$125 per player; includes green fees
and cart, beverages, lunch and
awards dinner. Live auction during
awards dinner. Additional $25 for
Mulligans. Includes five raffle tickets
and putting contest. Partial proceeds
will be donated to: Family Haven and
the Special Olympics Forsyth County.

Plant Sale & Expo will be held on
Friday, April 10, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Billy R. Roland, 74, of Dawsonville,
died Saturday, Feb. 29, 2020. Bearden
Funeral Home is in charge of the

OBITUARIES
Thomas H. Garnsey
Thomas (Tom) H. Garnsey, 70, of
Dawsonville, died Friday, Feb. 28, 2020.
Tom served in the U.S. Army and is a
Vietnam Veteran. He was affiliated with
Christ The Redeemer Catholic Church
and a member of Chapter 970 Vietnam
Veterans in Dawsonville. He is also a
Lifetime member of the VFW in
Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
Tom was born in Ballston Spa, N.Y.
on Jan. 25, 1950. In 1983 he packed up
his family and moved them to Georgia
where his expertise in carpentry earned
him respect and much success. He built
his home in Woodstock, where he and
his family lived for 11 years.
In 1996 he found his little piece of
heaven on Lake Lanier and in 1997 he
built his own home again where he
spent many, many years enjoying life!
Along the way he met so many people
and made most of them his friends.
Tom (Daddy Dawg) is survived by his
wife of 47 years, Kathleen (Mama
Dawg) and his son Tommy (Sonny
Dawg). He is survived by siblings and
several nieces and nephews. He will be
deeply and forever missed.
A celebration of his life will be held
at a later date. Tom never wanted any
one to make a fuss over him and chose
no formal services, but wouldn’t mind a
party in his honor.

Loretta Cantrell Slaton
Loretta Cantrell Slaton, 78, of
Dawsonville died Friday, Feb. 28, 2020
at Northeast Georgia Medical Center
following a period of declining health.
Mrs. Slaton was born December 29,
1941 to the late Fred and Claudine
Papa's Place, 3651 Dawson Forest Rd.,
Dawsonville GA 30534. Please contact

Georgia Racing Hall of Fame, a non
profit organization is operated solely by
volunteers. We are open seven days a
week. Volunteers are needed for morn
ings 10 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. and after
noons from 1:30- 5 p.m. Hours at your

Edna Willis, 92, of Dawsonville died
Thursday, Feb. 26, 2020. Funeral servic
es will be held in Crystal River, Fla.

Cantrell, and had been a resident of
Dawson County for most of her life.
Loretta was raised in Sautee, Ga., and a
graduate of Nacoochee High School
where she played basketball. One of the
best cooks in North Georgia, she was a
member of Silver City Baptist Church
and a mama to many, not just her fami
ly, and made everyone feel loved.
Loretta was also preceded in death by
her brothers, David Cantrell, Earl
Cantrell; brother in law, Wallace Slaton;
niece, Lori Slaton.
Surviving are her husband of 58
years, Roger D. Slaton, Dawsonville;
children, Barry and Lora Slaton,
Dawsonville, Chuck and Frankie Slaton,
Gainesville, Julie and Jason Stanfield,
Dawsonville; sisters and brothers in law,
Jeanie and Buford Kinsey, Cleveland,
Carol and Jack Westmoreland,
Clarkesville, Eva Nix, Rome, Wilma
Dorsey, Cleveland; brother and sisters in
law, Ronald and Helen Cantrell,
Hiawassee, Barbara Cantrell, Clayton,
Eloise Slaton, Austell; grandchildren,
Tyler and Maddie Slaton, Riley and
Devin Gearhart, Brittan Slaton, Charles
“Chaz” Slaton, Mollie Stanfield, Elijah
Stanfield, Abby Samples-Slaton; a num
ber of nieces, nephews and cousins; var
ious other relatives also survive.
Funeral services were held Monday,
March 2, 2020 at 2 p.m. at Silver City
Baptist Church. Rev. Brody Hughes,
Rev. Russell Burt, Rev. Tim Biddy, Rev.
Chris Gilbert, Rev. Stephen Davis and
Rev. Scott Sorrells officiated. Interment
followed in the church cemetery.
The family received friends at the
funeral home on Saturday, Feb. 29 from
5-8 p.m. and on Sunday, March 1 from
2-8 p.m.

activity under 3-compartment sink
in back room and inside vanities in
restrooms. Any holes in walls (rest
rooms and around 3-compartment
sink) need to also be sealed to pre
vent areas of harborage for insects/
rodents. Per CFSM and owner, the
suite restaurant is located in is to
have all outside entry points sealed
and inside is to be targeted for
stepped up pest control to help elim
inate harborage. Once holes sealed
and pest control in place, clean
floors and inside vanities frequently
to monitor activity and very control
measures are working.

Person in Charge needs to be desig
nated and trained for this operation.
Food handler washed hands, began
prepping pizzas with bandage on
finger. Per food handler, gloves are
in locked office and cannot be
accessed when manager is not at the
store. When employee removed ban
dage, cut was still bleeding and
needed to be re- bandaged. COS:
Cut on hand re-bandaged, hands
washed and several pairs of gloves
provided for use by EHS. Whatever
is needed for day to day operations
must be available at all times for
use. Neither food employee had
been informed in a verifiable man
ner about their responsibility to
report to the person in charge (PIC),
information about their health and
activities as they relate to diseases
that are transmissible through food.
PIC/Certified Food Safety Manager
has been given state guidance form
for use on last inspection. Open
Monster drink on prep table next to
dough rounder, travel mug and half
consumed bottle of Pepsi on shelf
under this prep table. Drinks may be
in the kitchen if they are in a dis
posable (single-service) cup with a
secure lid and straw and stored to
prevent any possible contamination
of food/food contact surfaces. COS:
Monster drink and travel mug taken
to office area, Pepsi discarded.
Sheet pans for pizza dough, Lexan
containers, pizza cutters and other
small wares in basket above 3-com
partment sink with food residue on/
in them after being cleaned and san
itized. After cleaning and sanitizing,
recheck pans/equipment for cleanli
ness before storage. All these items
need to be re-cleaned and sanitized
before next use. No thermometer
could be located for use in monitor
ing cold and hot held time and tem
perature control for safety foods in
pizza makeline, walk-in cooler and
hot holding pass thru. Thermometer
needs to be located and/or replaced
if not located. Pizza makeline cooler
and hot holding pass-thru with dam
aged and dirty gaskets. Keep gaskets
clean and in good repair to allow for
easy and frequent cleaning. Metal
shelving rack used to store clean
and sanitized kitchenware/utensils
with dried food debris/grease on
slats. Rolling racks used to store
uncooked pizzas with large build-up
of food debris on all of the slides.
To prevent contamination of clean
and sanitized kitchenware/utensils
and food, shelving and rolling racks
need to be cleaned more frequently.
Floor needs a good cleaning
throughout back prep area - accu
mulation of food debris/grease and
dirt under 3-compartment sink, prep
sink, shelving and dough mixer.
Clean frequently to prevent build-up
that can be attraction for insects/
rodents.
