Wade named to Georgia coronavirus task force

Local political candidate Will
Wade has been named to the
Georgia Coronavirus Task Force
Economic Impact Committee by
Gov. Brian Kemp.
On Friday, Kemp announced
dozens of appointments to four
Coronavirus Task Force
Committees: he
Economic Impact
Committee, Primary Care
Provider Committee,
Emergency Preparedness
Committee, and
Committee for the
Homeless and Displaced.
“In February, we
formed the Coronavirus
Task Force with a focus on pre

sectors
paring for COVID-19
and its effects,” Kemp
said in a press release
Friday. “Now, as we
mitigate the spread of
the virus, these commit
tees will address the
specific impacts that
COVID-19 will have on
communities, industry
our healthcare system,
and emergency preparedness. I
have full confidence in these
committees to serve the needs of
all Georgians during this chal
lenging time. In the weeks
ahead, we will continue to
ensure that our state stands ready
for any scenario.”
Following the announcement,
Wade said that he was honored
to have the chance to use his
experience in banking to help
people and small businesses in
this time of need.
“It’s what I helped do locally
during the Great Recession and
I’m ready to do it again,” Wade
said. “My prayer is that we all
remain calm, collected and will
ing to make a few short-term
adjustments so that this will pass
quickly.”
Four arrested for narcotics
charges in Dawson County

2020, officers with the
Dawson County Crime
Suppression Unit alleg
edly observed a drug
transaction at Big D’s
BBQ on Hwy. 53 in
Dawsonville.
An investigation by
deputies yielded
approximately 119
grams of methamphet-
amine, cash and three
arrests, Johnson said.

The three suspects were transported
from the scene to the Dawson County
Detention Center.
Following the arrests on Wednesday,
Johnson said that the Dawson County
Crime Suppression Unit conducted an
additional drug investigation within the
county. During the investigation, a male
suspect allegedly agreed to deliver
approximately 31 grams of metham
phetamine and 1 gram of heroin to
undercover investigators.
Andre Fashonne Faulkner, 49, of
Stone Mountain was arrested by the
Dawson County Sheriff’s Office,
charged with criminal attempt to distrib
ute heroin, trafficking in methamphet
amine and for a parole violation.
Faulkner is being held in custody
under no bond.

Dawson County BOE approves contractor for
elementary school roof, HVAC replacement

At the March 17 meeting of the
Dawson County Board of Education,
the Dawson County School system
approved a contractor for the removal
and replacement of the roof and HVAC
system at Blacks Mill Elementary
School.
Dawson County Schools advertised a
request for proposal for the replacement
of the roof and HVAC systems, accord
ing to Scott Morgan, Director of
Facilities and Maintenance. The Board
of Education voted at their meeting to
allow the superintendent to sign a con
tract approving moving forward with
the project.
“On Tuesday, March 17, the Dawson
County Board of Education awarded
Carroll Daniel Construction Company
as the general contractor for this proj
ect,” Morgan said.
The school board is projecting a ten
tative start date for the project as May
29, 2020, and hope to have it completed
before school staff returns for the fall
semester on Aug. 3, 2020.
