It took the Dawson County
Tigers football team no time at
all to zap any chance of Gilmer
pulling off the upset from the
Bobcat sidelines; the Tigers has
21 points in the first six minutes
of Friday night’s game.
The Tigers refused to take
their foot off the gas pedal, win
ning the game 52-21 for their
third win a row, moving to 3-3
on the season.
“Our offense came out smok
ing,” Tigers head football coach
Sid Maxwell said.
Just like every other defense
the Tigers have faced the season,
nobody from Gilmer could slow
down senior wide receiver
Bailey Dameron. In just a little
over two quarters played
tonight, Dameron led the Tigers
in receptions (8) and receiving
yards (136). Prior to the start of
the game, Dameron was 11th in
the state in receiving yards with
606.
Including Dameron, seven dif
ferent Tigers scored their seven
touchdowns. Holtzclaw threw
three passing touchdowns, one
to Dameron, a 31-yard pass to
senior Braedon Hubbard and a

The Lady Tigers volleyball season came to an end
Wednesday, Oct. 6, as the team was unable to make
it out of the first round of the Region 7-3A tourna
ment.
Needing two wins to advance to Thursday’s por
tion of the bracket, the Lady Tigers only won one
game, while losing two, eliminating them from the
GHSA 3A State Volleyball tournament.
“It didn’t end the way we wanted, but we accom
plished a lot,” Lady Tigers head coach Tanya Porter
said. “Because of what we were able to accomplish
this year, we’ve been able to improve in multiple
areas. Most importantly, we grew in skill, team
chemistry and dynamics. The team knows my
expectations as a coach and their own strengths and
weaknesses to make gains moving forward.”
The Lady Tigers started the tournament as the No.
3 seed after going 5-2 during region play in the reg
ular season. Their first match against the No. 6 seed
West Hall did not go as planned, with the Lady
Tigers falling in two straight sets.

From Staff Reports
Dawsonville native Chase Elliott was driving

fix his car and get him back on the racetrack on the
lead lap. Elliott rejoined the field in 37th and made
his way to 31st by lap 77. He continued to push
hard but the damage he had sustained earlier caused
his decklid to come off on lap 86, bringing out
another caution.
Elliott pitted for tires, fuel, and to repair the dam

the green flag waved, Elliott dodged a large group
