Similar number of voters as last city election
for this year’s race for two City Council seats
By Erica Jones

On Tuesday Nov. 2,
voters from across
Dawsonville came out to
the polls to vote in the
city election for the two
seats on the city council.
According to Board of
Elections and
Registration Director
Glenda Ferguson, as of
last Friday when advance
voting ended there had
been a total of 170 votes
cast, either in person or
absentee by mail. The
Board of Elections
received a request for
nine total absentee bal
lots, eight of which have
been cast and one of
which is still outstanding.
Ferguson said as of
mid-afternoon on
Tuesday, about 80 more
citizens had shown up to
cast their votes, putting
the total at about 250 vot-
ers. According to
Ferguson, there are 2947
active registered voters
who could vote in this
election. She said that in
the last city election, 282
citizens turned out to
vote.
“We’d really like to see
more people, but for the
most part everything
seems to be okay; I hope
that by the time we get to
7 (p.m.) maybe we’ll sur
pass that 282 from last
time,” Ferguson said.
“But so far, everything’s
running smooth and
everything seems to be
going okay.”

Man faces arraignment for 2020 car chase
Julia Fechter

After unsuccessfully
trying to evade law
enforcement last summer
by driving his Toyota
Camry at speeds of
almost 100 miles per
hour, Joshua Warren
Bush, 32, of Cumming
faces an upcoming
arraignment.
His court date, which
was originally scheduled
last Friday, will be
moved to a future date,
pending the end of the
Austin Stryker trial,
where Judge Kathlene

For the high-speed

July 31, 2020, Bush was
charged with two counts
of fleeing or attempting
to evade a police officer;
a violation of duty upon
striking a fixed object;
obstruction of an officer;
reckless driving; speed

Before the July 2020
chase, Bush was alleged
ly speeding more than 20
mph above the posted
speed limit as he drove
his 1998 Toyota Camry
along Ga. 53. A Georgia
State Patrol trooper
ordered him to stop, and
Bush ran a red light at the
intersection of Ga. 53
and Fumpkin
Campground Road.
Bush proceeded to
drive between 90-95 mph
along Ga. 53, and as he
turned onto Perimeter
Road, he hit a stop sign.
The chase ended on Burt
Creek Road, near Shoal
Creek Road. Bush ran
from the car and fled into
the woods before later
being caught.
In 2017, Bush was also
arrested by authorities in
Forsyth County after
refusing to pull over for a
traffic stop and leading
them on a high-speed
chase in his black
Mustang.
He sped away from
state troopers and depu
ties at speeds of over 100
mph. as he headed the
wrong way down Ga.
400. Bush almost hit a
