At the Nov. 15 meeting of the
Dawsonville City Council, the
council and mayor recognized
the city’s employee of the month
and presented service awards to
two of the city’s longtime
employees.
During the meeting, Public
Works Director Trampas
Hansard was recognized as the
October employee of the month.
According to City Manager Bob
Bolz, Hansard was honored as
the employee of the month for
many reasons, but especially
because of all his hard work in
helping make the annual
Mountain Moonshine Festival
happen.
“October is consumed with
the Moonshine Festival; you all
were involved a great deal but
you still don’t see how much
goes into preparation, operation
and follow-up,” Bolz said during
the meeting. “There’s a lot of
people that could be recognized
for it, but one person in particu
lar stood out; he deals with it,
start to finish, and that’s Mr.
Trampas Hansard.”
Hansard was presented with a
certificate honoring his achieve
ment.
The council and mayor also
recognized two city employees
for their longtime service to the
city. They recognized Accounts
Payable and Event Coordinator
Sara Beacham for her 13 years
with the city and City Manager
Bob Bolz for his five years with
the city.
Both Beacham and Bolz were
presented with November service
awards and recognized for their
years of dedication and their con
tinued commitment to make the
city a better place.

City votes to waive construction fees for upcoming BOE projects
By Erica Jones

During the Nov. 15
meeting of the
Dawsonville City Council,
council members voted to
waive the city’s construc
tion fees for the school
system’s upcoming con
struction of the new agri
cultural center and multi
purpose facility.
According to Planning
and Zoning Director David
Picklesimer, the school
board submitted a letter
requesting the city council
to waive all of the con
struction fees involved in
the construction of both of
the new buildings.
“The school board is
asking to waive total fees
of $15,934.20,”
Picklesimer said. “Of that,
the building permit fee is
$11,986.20, the plan
review fee is $3,029.60,
the development fee is
$918.40.”
Picklesimer said he
checked with surrounding
counties, specifically Hall
and Forsyth Counties, and
that his contacts say that
they do charge fees, but
that one only charges the
development fee. The
school’s projects are being
funded by SPLOST, not
the property tax collec
tions.
City Manager Bob Bolz
said so far, the city has
paid the $3,029.60 for the
plan review, so waiving the
fees would include the city
absorbing the money
already paid into the city’s
planning and zoning bud
get and waiving all further
fees for the school board.
Council Member Mark
French questioned the
city’s legal council about
whether or not the city’s
ordinances allow the coun
cil to waive the fees.
According to City Attorney
Kevin Tallant, because the
school board is another
government organization
the city is allowed to waive
the fees.
“You can waive the fees
— you would not be able
to waive these fees, I don’t
believe, if you were deal
ing with a private develop
ment,” Tallant said. “But

“There is no negotiated
plea agreement, nor is there
a plea offer or one that will
be made,” said Senior
Assistant District Attorney
Conley Greer at the Oct. 29
hearing.
Others involved in the
killing have already been
sentenced.
As part of a plea deal,
Huff will spend 12 years in
prison and 18 years on pro
bation for his role in
Bender’s death.
Dylan Reid, who also
was a gang member, testi
fied in the case as well. He
pleaded guilty in April to
aggravated assault, aggra
vated battery, a street gang
violation, tampering with
evidence and concealing
the death of another. He
will spend 20 years in jail
and 15 on probation.
Elizabeth Donaldson,
Stryker’s wife, has been
charged with concealing
the death of another and
tampering with evidence.
She allegedly helped move
Bender’s remains to a
Blacks Mill Road resi
dence on Sept. 16 and strip
interior parts from the truck
where Bender was mur
dered. A trial date for her
has not been scheduled.

Dawsonville Mayor
Mike Eason said because

“The school system is

Council members voted
