A Dawson County teacher remains
behind bars after being arrested Thursday
for alleged sexual crimes.
James Gregory Jeffers, 49, of
Dahlonega, was arrested Dec. 2 and has
since been charged with two counts of
felony sexual battery, according to news
releases from the Dawson County
Sheriff’s Office.
Jeffers is a teacher and coach at
Dawson County Junior High
School. He has been employed
with Dawson County Schools for
2.5 years, according to Tiffany
Davis, the executive assistant for
Superintendent Damon Gibbs.
One warrant for Jeffers’ arrest
alleges that between the dates of
Nov. 15 and Nov. 19, 2021, he
committed an act of sexual bat
tery when he intentionally made contact
with the backside of a child younger than
16 who was also a DCJH student. The
offense was reported to have
occurred at the junior high school.
A second warrant alleges that
between Nov. 1 and Nov. 15,
Jeffers touched the backside of
another underage student on two
separate occasions at the school.
“The Dawson County Sheriff’s
Office continues to work with par
ents and school officials to further investi
gate and potentially identify any addition
al criminal acts,” stated the DCSO
release.
Currently, Jeffers remains in the custo
dy of the Dawson County Detention
Center.
“An investigation is underway, and we
are cooperating fully with Sheriff Johnson
and his team,” said Superintendent Gibbs
in a Friday statement. “The staff member
has been placed on administrative leave
until the investigation is complete. No
further comments can be made concern
ing the personnel issue at this point.”
DCN will provide updates on this case
as more information becomes available.
