James Gregory Jeffers, 49, of Dahlonega, was arrested Dec. 2 and has since been charged with two counts of felony sexual battery, according to news releases from the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office. Jeffers is a teacher and coach at Dawson County Junior High School. He has been employed with Dawson County Schools for 2.5 years, according to Tiffany Davis, the executive assistant for Superintendent Damon Gibbs. One warrant for Jeffers’ arrest alleges that between the dates of Nov. 15 and Nov. 19, 2021, he committed an act of sexual bat tery when he intentionally made contact with the backside of a child younger than 16 who was also a DCJH student. The offense was reported to have occurred at the junior high school. A second warrant alleges that between Nov. 1 and Nov. 15, Jeffers touched the backside of another underage student on two separate occasions at the school. “The Dawson County Sheriff’s Office continues to work with par ents and school officials to further investi gate and potentially identify any addition al criminal acts,” stated the DCSO release. Currently, Jeffers remains in the custo dy of the Dawson County Detention Center. “An investigation is underway, and we are cooperating fully with Sheriff Johnson and his team,” said Superintendent Gibbs in a Friday statement. “The staff member has been placed on administrative leave until the investigation is complete. No further comments can be made concern ing the personnel issue at this point.” DCN will provide updates on this case as more information becomes available. City, chamber kick off season with parade, Jingle Market, tree lighting By Erica Jones ejones@dawsonnews.com On Dec. 4, hundreds of people came to downtown Dawsonville to watch the Christmas parade, shop in the Jingle Market and par ticipate in the tree lighting ceremony during the city’s ninth annual Christmas event. The event kicked off at 4 p.m. with the city’s annual Christmas parade. Spectators lined the streets as dozens of groups, busi nesses and individuals drove colorful decorated floats around downtown Dawsonville and down the first part of highway 53, shouting “Merry Christmas”, waving and throwing candy and other goodies to the children watching. From 4 to 8 p.m., local vendors set up in front of Dawsonville City Hall to participate in the Dawson County Chamber of Commerce Jingle Market, allowing attendees to go from booth to booth shop ping for unique Christmas gifts, decorations and much more. Also during the event, families were able to take photos with Santa and pur chase concessions from sev eral food trucks at the farm ers market pavilion. At 6 p.m., Dawson County Chamber of Commerce President Mandy Power presented awards to some of the best floats in the Christmas parade and prizes to the winners of a competition allowing local students to decorate the windows of the city hall and the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame. Dawson County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded about 9:47 p.m. Nov. 28 to a home on Sams Road in Dawson County after a report of gunshots. Jenny Adam, 50, of Dawson County, and James Adam, 62, of Hall County, were found dead, according to Dawson County Sheriff Jeff Johnson.
