Gas leak closes Dawsonville road for hours

On the morning of
Wednesday, Dec. 1, a gas
leak closed down Nix
Bridge and Harmony
Church Road.
Allegedly, a back hoe
dug into a gas pipe, leak
ing gas for approximately
30 to 45 minutes. The
Dawson County Sheriff’s
Office was unable to con
firm whether the accident
was caused by a construc
tion group or not.
According to sheriff
Jeff Johnson, the roadway
opened around 2:15 p.m.

Dawson man dead after fatal motorcycle crash

Just after 5:45 p.m. on Sunday, Nov.
28, there was a fatal accident at the
intersection of Hwy 53 and War Hill
Park Road.
Jerry Cecil Fricks, a 28-year-old from
Dawsonville, was traveling south of
Hwy 53 when he struck a northbound
vehicle, a Ford F-250, attempting to
take a left turn onto War Hill Park Road.
Fricks was driving a Suzuki RMZ 250
dirt bike that reportedly had no head
lights.
Fricks was transported to a local hos
pital where he succumbed to his inju
ries.

Amicalola EMC has recently awarded
fourth quarter 2021 donations from the
organization’s Operation Round Up pro
gram to several local groups and individu
als, and is encouraging its members to
participate in the program as a way to put
a few small pennies to work in a big way.
According to a press release by the
organization, the fourth quarter Operation
Round Up donations were awarded to the
Georgia Mountain Food Bank, Lumpkin
County Schools and Saint Vincent de
Paul-Pickens, as well as to qualifying indi
viduals to use for rent, dental work, heat
ing assistance, propane and repairs to shel
ter.
Operation Round Up is a way for
Amicalola EMC members to round up
their power bill each month to the nearest
dollar for charity.
“If you are looking for a way to donate
your small change in a way that will truly
make a difference, Operation Round Up is
the answer,” the release said. “Thousands
of Amicalola EMC members round up

cents a month and the average donation is
more like $6 a year.”
According to the release, over the past
21 years Amicalola EMC members partic
ipating in Operation Round Up have
donated $2.4 million to local charities and
individuals in their community.
“Every penny stays right here at home,”
the release said. “During this holiday sea
son, make the choice to join them and
watch your pennies make a big difference
in the lives of those who need it most.”

Dawson Forest Road Lift Station & Sanitary Sewer

Etowah Water & Sewer Authority is requesting individual sealed Bids for furnishing all
materials, labor, tools, equipment and appurtenances, and performing all work required to
construct the Dawson Forest Road Lift Station & Sanitary Sewer project. The project
includes sanitary sewer system and water system improvements at one location within
Dawson County and consists of the work as detailed on the construction drawings and
generally as follows: Demolition of an existing abandoned wet well and installation of
approximately 1,000 L.F. of 12-inch gravity sanitary sewer, 5,000 L.F. of 18-inch gravity
sanitary sewer, 180 L.F. of 8-inch sewage force main, 145 L.F. of 54-inch diameter
tunnel, 30 precast manholes, 1,600 L.F. of 12-inch water line, 100 L.F. of 1-inch water
service line, a new Gorman-Rupp wet-well mounted package lift station (including
miscellaneous site piping, electrical, concrete, fencing, etc.), including all necessary and
required appurtenances and erosion and sedimentation control for a complete project. The
work will be awarded in one Contract. Pre-qualification of Bidders is required for the
Dawson Forest Road Lift Station & Sanitary Sewer project. Beginning Wednesday,
December 1,2021, a copy of the application and qualification requirements can be obtained
from the Etowah Water & Sewer Authority Engineering & Construction Department located
at 1162 Highway 53 East, Dawsonville, Georgia 30534 or via email to Tim Collins at
timc@etowahwater.org. Completed pre-qualification applications for Bids will be received
at the Etowah Water & Sewer Authority Engineering & Construction Department, 1162
Highway 53 East, Dawsonville, Georgia 30534 until 5:00 p.m., local time, Friday, January
14, 2022.
