Man faces 36 charges after car chase
by Julia Fechter

One Indiana man was recent
ly apprehended after leading
law enforcement on a high
speed car chase along Ga. 400
and nearby roadways.
Lashan David Wyatt Jr., 23,
of Hammond, Indiana, was
arrested by the Dawson County
Sheriff’s Office on Nov. 27 just
after 1 a.m.
Wyatt has been charged with
one felony count each of pos
session of a controlled sub
stance, possession of a firearm
during commission of a crime,
possession of firearm by
a convicted felon and
fleeing or eluding a
police officer.
His misdemeanors
include six counts of
speeding; five counts of
driving on the wrong
side of the road; four
counts of failure to
maintain lane; three
counts of obstruction of an offi
cer; and two counts each of
reckless driving, wrong way on
or around a roundabout and
failure to stop for stop sign.
He was also cited for
singular counts of obe
dience to traffic control
device, striking a fixed
object, failure to report
an accident with dam
age to property, driving
with a revoked license,
a violation each for
turning headlights and
tail lights off, improper
stopping on roadway and a
drug-related DUI.
It is unknown why Wyatt, as
an Indiana resident, was in
Georgia, said Dawson County
Sheriff Jeff Johnson.
Pursuit begins
Warrants and citations allege
that the midnight-hour pursuit
began after a deputy along Ga.
400 tried to stop Wyatt, who
was driving a black Mitsubishi
Outlander rental car at 74 mph
in a 55-mph zone.
Wyatt allegedly sped away
and during the chase that
ensued, he zipped down roads
in the southern end of the coun
ty, all the while speeding,
swerving, running stop signs
and driving
in the opposing lane. The
pursuit continued back onto
Ga. 400, where Wyatt allegedly
reached 115 mph., crossed
dividing line markers and drove
northbound in the highway’s
southbound lanes for a period
of time.
Near the intersection of the
highway and Dawson Forest
Road, Wyatt struck a gate with

After over a decade of selling garments
to boutiques, warehouses and customers
around the world, fashion designer April
Spring and husband Alex Emmermann
celebrated bringing her FOXERS clothing
brand to a physical location in Dawson
County.
The Dawson County Chamber of
Commerce held a ribbon cutting on Dec.
8 to recognize the brand’s debut brick-
and mortar store, located at 124 Storage
Way Ste. 100.
The boutique, which opened in July,
hosted its grand opening last Saturday,
Dec. 4. Its shelves and racks offer an
array of women’s and men’s loungewear
and intimate wear, as well as other cloth
ing and accessory items.
While Spring described much of her
and Emmermann’s business as wholesale,

This month, the Dawson County
Chamber of Commerce partnered with
the City of Dawsonville and Dawson
County High School to hold a window
art contest and decorate the windows
of the Dawsonville City Hall and the
Georgia Racing Hall of Fame.
Several students from the Dawson
County High School art class, taught
by Jennifer Gray, came out to the city’s
municipal complex in November to
decorate the windows. The paintings
were then voted on and winners were
chosen and announced at the city’s
annual Christmas Parade and Tree
Lighting on Dec. 4.
The Downtown Development
Authority (DDA) sponsored prizes for
each of the winners, with a $100 cash
prize for the winner, $75 for second
place, $50 for third place and $25 for
the honorable mention. Dawson
County Chamber of Commerce
President Mandy Power announced
each winner during the tree lighting
ceremony, congratulating all of the

A local family, in conjunction with
their church, has recently started a
Special Needs Apostolate open to anyone
in the community with special needs and
aimed at providing friendship and oppor
tunities for the participants.
According to Anne Mancini, the idea
started nine years ago when she was
asked to be a religious education program
assistant at Christ the Redeemer Catholic
Church in Dawson County.
She filled the assistant role and has now
been a lead teacher for eight years, in
which time she said she has seen many
special needs children come through her
class. She and her husband Tony have a
son who has special needs himself, and
they recognized that the students would
