Mulberry said. “We were
able to use our in-shape-
ness to keep us pushing
forward and staying moti
vated.”
The several seniors on
the Dawson County
squad played well — and
with visible passion —
throughout the game, but
it was sophomore Trey
Harvey who stole the
show with 34 points.
Anywhere he was on
the court, Harvey found
the space to shoot and
took his opportunities
well. He was just as
effective off the ball,
helping set up shots dur
ing possessions and
showing his abilities as a
vocal leader.
The first quarter ended
with the Spartans leading
19-17, but the constant
offensive pressure by the
Tigers paid off, turning a
two point deficit into a
38-29 lead at the half.
More of the same suc
cess allowed Dawson
County to lead by as
many as 15 points in the
third quarter, but a late
push by West Hall closed
the gap to 60-53.
The Tigers would not
allow another push by the
Spartans for the remain
der of the game, scoring
13 points within the first
four minutes of the final
quarter. Harvey and com
pany would close the
door on the defensive
end, only allowing West
Hall to score eight points
in the fourth quarter.
The boys team secured
the fifth seed in the
region after this win and
will play on Tuesday,
Feb. 8, against East
Forsyth, who the Tigers
won against previously.

Tennis
relied on a solid return game to counter
her East Hall opponent, eventually win
ning 6-4, 6-1.
Marlee Gaddis would round out the
singles competition on the girls team
with a win as well.
On the boys team, the energetic Grant
Ledbetter had the inverse experience of
Smith, facing a resilient opponent in the
second set after comfortably winning
the first.
Ledbetter had the momentum for most
of the match through his powerful fore
hand, but a few unforced errors allowed
the East Hall player to inch closer as the
match wore on. Eventually, Ledbetter
would pull through with a 6-2, 6-4 win.
Chase Cofield made quicker work of
his opponent, cruising to a 6-2, 6-2 vic
tory by way of his strength and crafti
ness at the net. Zach Friday would finish
up the boys singles competition with a
6-1, 6-2 win.
For both the girls and boys teams,
their winning ways continued in dou
bles. All four pairings won their match
es, with neither boys pairing dropping a
set.
The DCHS tennis teams have an
extended break before their next slate of
matches, which will occur on
Wednesday, Feb. 16, at Chestatee High
School.
“I think it’ll be a good thing to give us
a little more practice time,” Allen said.
“Hopefully we get some good weather
in the next couple of weeks...it’ll be
good for us overall to get a lot of prac
tices in.”
