Wednesday, March 30,2022 dawsonnews.com I DAWSON COUNTY NEWS I 5A DCHS By Erica Jones ejones@dawsonnews.com Last weekend, several students from the Dawson County High School Future Farmers of America (FFA) group competed in state-level competitions at the state FFA camp in Covington, Georgia. According to DCHS FFA Advisor Keith Pankey, two teams from Dawson County compet ed in the Agricultural (AG) Mechanics event and the Dairy Cattle Evaluation event on March 18 and March 19. The DCHS AG Mechanics team placed eighth overall out of a total of 12 teams compet ing in the extremely diffi cult event. FFA students compete in state events Photos courtesy of Keith Pankey Last weekend, two teams from the DCHS FFA group competed in state events at the state FFA camp in Covington, Ga. “AG Mechanics is con sidered one of, if not the hardest event the FFA competes in,” Pankey said. The DCHS Dairy Cattle Evaluation team placed 18th overall out of 30 total teams competing in their event. “Both teams competed their hearts out at two very difficult events,” Pankey said. Chamber holds ribbon cutting for Holiday Inn By Erica Jones ejones@dawsonnews.com On Thursday March 24, the Dawson County Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting for the Holiday Inn Express and Suites, located at 16 Bethel Drive. In a short ceremony preceding the ribbon cutting, Dawson County Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Mandy Power welcomed the owners and employees of the hotel to the community, thanking them for bringing a much-needed business to Dawson County. “I cannot tell you how excited we are for the long-awaited cutting of the ribbon here at the Holiday Inn Express,” Power said. “We have need ed and wanted something of this cali ber, and we are so excited to promote it and to have Holiday Inn Express here in our community.” Holiday Inn Express and Suites offers several different types of rooms with all the necessities and amenities guests need to stay comfortably away from home. The hotel also offers breakfast, coffee and a fitness center.
