The BOC voted unani mously to approve DCSO’s application for a school safety-specific Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) grant during their June 16 voting session, just before the first deadline of June 17. BOC meetings are held in the assembly room of the Dawson County Government Center on the first and third Thursdays of every month. Starting in January, the BOC began holding voting sessions directly after the 4 p.m. work sessions. The board’s decision fol lows the BOC’s May 5 approval to apply for a sep arate COPS grant which would allow DCSO to hire up to four more certified law enforcement officers. The school safety grant would allow law enforce ment to apply for $500,000, with a 25 percent local cash match. It’s a competitive, repeat 36-month grant, said Dawson County Sheriff Jeff Johnson during his presen tation at the BOC work ses sion on June 16. Following much public curiosity and anticipation online, Ling Ling’s opened in mid-May at 29 North 400 Center Lane, next to CVS on Ga. 53. Prior to its opening, He helped establish six other locations in New York and New Jersey. He shared that his whole family, including his parents, had experi ence in the restaurant business going back to their time in China. In a summer 2006 arti cle by Annie Deck-Miller in “Western New York Life” magazine, He told a reporter that he learned recipes and cooking tech niques from his mother. BOE OKs 1st budget for 2022-23 By Erica Jones ejones@dawsonnews.com At the June 14 meeting of the Dawson County Board of Education, board members voted unanimously to approve an initial budget for the 2022-23 school year. The initial general fund budget approved by the board includes a beginning fund bal ance of $11,002,950, revenues totaling $50,636,530 and expenditures totaling $47,722,978, giving a projected ending fund balance of $13,916,502.
