Meetings of the subcommittee are held as needed to review unattended deaths of children under the age of 18 years who are residents of Dawson County at the time of their death. The Committee was notified of three (3) child deaths during the 2021 calendar year. Two deaths were determined by the Child Fatality Review Unit of the Georgia Bureau of Investigations to meet the requirements for review. Of those reviewed, one was a self-inflicted injury and one was a medical death. The remaining reported death did not meet the requirement for review. Our committee is comprised of dedicated members of child service agencies. Special recognition for prevention efforts should be given to Dawson County Sheriffs Office, The Dawson County School System, and the many other community members who have dedicated countless hours in service to the health and safety of children. In collaboration with the District Attorney’s Victim-Witness Program staff, these agencies have worked to identify at-risk youth and championed both proactive and reactive approaches to prevention of intentional and unintentional deaths. As always, the committee appreciates the support of the community and looks forward our continued collaboration in service to children. Respectfully Submitted.
