INSIDE, 6A DawsonCountyNews WEDNESDAY I JULY 6,2022 DaWSOflNeWS ^com DAWSONVULE, GEORGIA $1.00 Crews suspend search for missing man By Julia Fechter jfechter@dawsonnews.com Following an arduous week- long canvassing in and around the Amicalola Falls State Park area, the difficult decision has been made to suspend the active search for missing 21-year-old Sidiki “Prince” Kebe. As of Friday afternoon, first responders scaled back their efforts after not being able to find any clues that Kebe is still physically in the area, said Dawson County Fire Chief and Emergency Management Agency Director Danny Thompson. Kebe’s case will stay open with the Dawson County Sheriff’s office as a missing persons report. People with any information on his whereabouts are encour aged to call DCSO’s non-emer gency number at (706) 344- 3636. The case will remain open until Kebe is located. The young man’s last known location was the 3600 block of Ga. 52 on June 24. Kebe is about 5’9” and 170 lbs. with short, dark hair and braces. He was last seen wearing black shorts, a black shirt and flip- flops. “It’s a tough decision, and it weighs heavy on me. It’s the hardest thing I have to do for this job,” Chief Thompson said. “I’d rather have closure. It’s not that we’re giving up on it (the search). I always want to bring a loved one home to their fami lies because it just gives them closure.” Chief Thompson explained his rationale for the decision as a “matter of resources and available manpower,” explain ing that Fire and EMS, DCSO and responders from more than a dozen state resources spent hundreds of hours canvassing over 1,000 acres by ground and with 10-12 K9s as well as by air, including the usage of drones. Building projects, improvements well underway in school system Galt named new DCMS principal By Erica Jones ejones@dawsonnews.com Paige Galt has been hired as the new principal for Dawson County Middle School, following approval by the Dawson County Board of Education during last Friday’s called board meeting. According to a press release by the school sys tem, Galt will take over the principal role beginning in the upcoming 2022-23 school year, following the resignation of the middle school’s previous principal. “Dr. Galt is thrilled to begin her 25th year in education and work alongside the See Principal 12A Bryant named DCN sales exec. Tim Anderson named By Erica Jones ejones@dawsonnews.com With students out of the Dawson County school buildings for the summer, school system administra tion and staff are hard at work on several building improvements and con struction projects to help the schools in the district serve students even better than they already do. Assistant Superintendent of Operations Hershel Bennett said that the sys tem’s two major projects, the multipurpose athletic building and the Roger D. Slaton agriscience center, are well underway, and con struction crews have been making a great deal of progress this summer. “The two major projects we have going on are the multipurpose athletic build ing and the agriscience cen ter,” Bennett said. “Carroll Daniel Construction Company has done a great job on this; we’re making progress as expected. Once it gets out of the ground and they get the frame up, it goes really really fast and it’s amazing how much change will occur if I’m over there one morning and I go back that afternoon.” Multipurpose Athletic Building The multipurpose athletic building will house a bas ketball court, locker rooms, restrooms and a state-of- the-art weight room for stu dents to use during the day for weight training classes and fitness classes and for student athletes to use after school. The building is located between the high school, the performing arts center, the gym and the press box, making it a unique challenge to com plete, Bennett said. “I’m sure many people saw the crane that had to lift all the steel structure and all the parts over the gym to put them in place,” Bennett said. “Many schools sys tems, had they built this, would have put it out in a parking lot somewhere or set it away from the school, but for our students this was the best place for it to get the maximum amount of use and so that’s where we put it even though it was a little bit more inconvenient in the build.” See School|3A DCN sales manager By Erica Jones ejones@dawsonnews.com Dawson County News has hired Kristina Bryant as its new multimedia sales executive.
