Two students from
Dawson County High
School recently compet
ed at the National Future
Business Leaders of
America (FBLA) confer
ence, representing their
school and their county
on a national level.
The conference was
held in Chicago from
June 30 to July 2 and
gave students from
around the world a
chance to hone their busi-
ness and leadership
skills. DCHS senior
Carson Rider and junior
Alysa Reeves were
among the 13,000 stu
dents in attendance.
Rider took eighth place
in Networking
Infrastructures. During
the competition, he was
tested on all aspects of
network terminology,
topology and protocols.
Reeves took 11th place
in Client Services, an
event where students are
presented with a business
scenario that has a prob
lem that needs to be
solved and must come up
with a solution to it.
DCHS FBLA Advisor
Beth Hamby accompa
nied the two students to
the competition and said
that she was incredibly
proud of their accom
plishments.
“I am so proud of these
students and the way that
they represented Dawson
County,” Hamby said. “It
was a great accomplish
ment just to earn the right
to compete at the interna
tional level; however,
they both went beyond
that and placed in both of
their events.”
Hamby added that the
students’ success
wouldn’t have been pos
sible without the support
of the Dawson County
community.
“This community has
been very supportive of
these students, providing
multiple donations to get
them to Chicago and now
they can share in their
accomplishments,”
Hamby said. “We all
really appreciate every
one’s support. It takes an
entire community to do
this.”
In addition to compet
ing at the conference, the
students were also able to
enjoy their trip to
Chicago with an architec
tural riverboat tour, a tour
of the Willis tower and
sight-seeing.
PRESS RELEASE ANNOUNCING
PUBLIC HEARING AND ADOPTION
OF MILLAGE RATE FOR 2022
The Dawson County Board of Commissioners today
announces its intention to increase the 2022 property taxes it
will levy this year by 5.90% over the rollback millage rate.
Each year, the Board of Tax Assessors is required to review
the assessed value for property tax purposes of taxable
property in the County. When the trend of prices on properties
that have recently sold in the County indicate there has been
an increase in the fair market value of any specific property,
the Board of Tax Assessors is required by law to re-determine
the value of such property and adjust the assessment. This is
called a reassessment.
When the total digest of taxable property is prepared, Georgia
law requires a rollback millage rate must be computed that will
produce the same total revenue on the current year’s digest
that last year’s millage rate would have produced had no
reassessments occurred.
The budget tentatively adopted by the Dawson County Board
of Commissioners requires a millage rate higher than the
rollback rate; therefore, before the Dawson County Board of
Commissioners may finalize the tentative budget and set a
final millage rate, Georgia law requires three public hearings
to be held to allow the public an opportunity to express their
opinions on the increase.
All concerned citizens are invited to the public hearings on this
tax increase to be held in the Commissioners Meeting Room
at the Dawson County Courthouse/Administration Building
located at 25 Justice Way, Dawsonville, Georgia
at the following times:
1st. Public Hearing:
2nd. Public Hearing:
