ceremony for the new
business on Aug. 9.
Aaron Nickelson, who
opened the shop with his
business partner Justin
Fitzhugh and their wives,
Meghan and Olivia, said
that since the shop has
opened they’ve seen and
heard quite a bit of
excitement from the com
munity.
“It’s been amazing; we
have been very impressed
and happy with the turn
out from the community,
the support we’ve got,”
Nickelson said. “It’s been
busy; it’s just phenome
nal. And all the credit
goes to our staff; they’ve
been amazing getting us
through it.”
The Human Bean offers
a broad drink menu,
including all of the coffee
house staples like espres
so-based drinks, lattes,
cappuccinos and mochas.
The menu also includes
several house specialties,
like the “Snowy Mocha,”
a Ghirardelli white choc
olate mocha; the “Mexi
Mocha,” a cinnamon
chocolate mocha; and the
“Granita,” a frozen
espresso drink.
“We have a very broad
menu; obviously coffee is
the specialty and it all
starts with the highest
quality coffee beans, the
origin of everything,”
Nickelson said. “Anything
that’s made espresso-
based can be made cold,
hot or blended, and any of
those you can customize
with different flavors, car
amels, vanillas, all of that.
Then we have assorted fla
vors of fruit smoothies, we
do different teas and ener
gy drinks — and all of
those can be customized
with flavors.”
One of the things that
sets The Human Bean’s
menu apart, Nickelson
said, is the large range of
sugar free options that are
available. While many
coffee shops offer just
one or two sugar free
options, The Human
Bean offers between 15
and 20 sugar free options.
While the coffee shop
is primarily a drive
through, it also offers a
walk-up option for those
who would prefer to park
and order at the walk-up
window. The shop will
soon be adding delivery
services as well, includ
ing DoorDash, Grubhub
and UberEats, making it
even easier for customers
to satisfy their coffee
cravings.
“We try to ultimately
be a gourmet coffee com
pany that serves you
quickly,” Nickelson said.
The Human Bean was
originally founded in
Oregon, and since then
local franchisees like
Nickelson have picked
the franchise up across
the nation. Nickelson,
who is also the co-owner
of the Cumming location,
said that Dawsonville was
a natural next step for
him and his partner to put
their newest store.
“It’s close to Cumming,
it allows us to kind of
cross-use resources with
the other store, and we
just felt like it’s a market
that’s growing like crazy
so getting in with the
growth was important to
us,” Nickelson said. “And
so far it’s been phenome
nal.”

phrase “human being” and

Dawson County.
Crystal Hope
Dyer, 34, of
Roswell, was
apprehended on
Aug. 7 by the
Lake County
Sheriff’s Office in
Paisley, Florida, accord
ing to a booking report
on the agency’s website.
The Dawson County
Sheriff’s Office booked
her into custody on Aug.
14 on a charge of failing
to pay child support.
In April, Dyer was
arrested by DCSO for
allegedly taking money
from a charity called St.
Vincent De Paul Christ
Society last fall.
At that time, she was
charged with one
count each of fel
ony theft by tak
ing and third-
degree forgery as
well as seven
counts of identity
fraud.
Most of the
fraud charges and
the forgery one accused
Dyer of issuing checks
using the organization’s
information to an
account at a bank in
Dawson County.
Warrants allege Dyer
took $3,000 from the
charity “by utilizing
seven fraudulent checks
with the charity listed as
the payee and the checks
made payable to Crystal
Dyer by cashing said
checks or depositing
them into a bank
account.”
One of the identity
fraud warrants stated
Dyer allegedly issued a
check under false pre
tenses by posing as a
landlord to receive a
check from the charity.
The alleged offenses
occurred between Nov.
17 and Dec. 30, 2021,
according to DCSO war
rants. Dyer was also
arrested on Dec. 12,
2021, and accused of
possessing drugs with
the intent to distribute.
DCN will update this
story as more informa

we do,” Nickelson said. “I
