2A I DAWSON COUNTY NEWS I dawsonnews.com Wednesday, September 21,2022 NGMA draws crowds with annual Extreme Fun Fest By Erica Jones ejones@dawsonnews.com This past weekend, doz ens of spectators and model aircraft pilots flocked to the North Georgia Model Aviators’ airstrip in Dawson County to partici pate in the club’s annual Extreme Fun Fest Airshow. The event lasted from Friday Sept. 16 through Sunday Sept. 18 and fea tured some of the best model aircraft pilots from around the world flying model aircraft of all shapes, sizes and difficulty levels. According to North Georgia Model Aviators (NGMA) President TJ Klise, the turnout of both pilots and spectators to this year’s event was “fantas tic”. “It’s absolutely incredi ble,” Klise said. “We’ve got 38 or 39 registered pilots today, we’ve got the Extreme Flight demo team here so they’ll be doing demos once we start serv ing lunch and team demos which will be great.” The event was sponsored by Extreme Flight RC and Horizon Hobby, both of whom contributed prizes to the raffle that was held on Saturday. According to Extreme Flight RC President Chris Hinson, he and his team are excited to have gotten to partner with the NGMA group on the event once again this year. “They put on a couple special events out here every year to draw the pub lic in and just get more exposure for the hobby and for the club, so we’ve been fortunate to participate in that and be a sponsor for it for the past several years,” Hinson said. “We get a bunch of our team guys from around Georgia, sometimes from out of state, and show off our planes and what they’ll do for the community.” Hinson, who began fly ing remote controlled air craft when he was five years old, said that he’s always been interested in the hobby. “My dad was a naval avi ator so I was around air planes since I was bom and just always had a passion for it,” Hinson said. This is Extreme Flight RC’s 20th year in business, and the goal of the hobby shop is to share this love and passion for remote control planes with other people, he said. “This is our 20th year in business, so we’re celebrat ing, had a couple special events and built a couple special planes for it,” Hinson said. “We manufac ture radio control planes of various sizes and various styles, and have a lot of them out here today.” For those interested in learning more about remote control aircraft and getting started in the hobby, Hinson said that reaching out to the North Georgia Model Aviators is a great start. “The best thing you can do is reach out to the club here,” Hinson said. “We Will Jones for the Dawson County News Above, pilots fly model aircraft during the North Georgia Model Aviators Extreme Flight airshow on Saturday, Sept. 17.
