Chamber holds ribbon cutting for Specialty Orthopaedics

On Thursday Oct. 20, the Dawson
County Chamber of Commerce held a rib
bon cutting for Specialty Orthopaedics,
located at 81 Prominence Court Suite 100.
Specialty Orthopaedics offers compre
hensive orthopaedic care, including hand
surgery, knee replacement surgery, joint
care, general orthopaedics, foot and ankle
care, spine care, sports medicine and work
er’s compensation. The practice has two
other locations in Gainesville and
Braselton, as well as a surgery center in
Gainesville, and the Dawsonville office
has been open since February.
At the Dawsonville location, Dr. Chad
Muxlow specializes in sports medicine,
and Dr. Thomas Neustein specializes in
hand and upper extremity procedures.
According to Muxlow, he, Neustein and
their staff are excited to be at the
Dawsonville location and getting to know
the community better.
“We’re excited to be here full time and
keep developing our relationship with the
community,” Muxlow said. “If y’all ever
need anything just let us know; we’re here
and available, we’ve got a great team and a
great staff who have been with us for a
while so we have full services here and can
take care of everything for you.”
Muxlow added that, because the practice
has three locations, he and Neustein can
also refer patients to providers at their
other locations if the patient is in need of
another kind of specialist.
“I specialize in sports medicine which is
kind of a misnomer; I take care of athletes
but it’s more arthroscopic surgery, so ten
don repairs, ligament reconstructions and
things like that,” Muxlow said. “Dr.
Neustein is primarily elbow, hand, upper
extremity and all the fine details with
those. We also have a foot and ankle spe
cialist in our Gainesville office, we have a
spine specialist, and we can refer you to
our other office so we pretty much have
everything covered.”
Before officially cutting the ribbon,
Mandy Power, president and CEO of the
Dawson County Chamber of Commerce,
welcomed Muxlow, Neustein and their
staff to the community, expressing her
excitement at having orthopaedic special
ists in the county.
“We’re excited to get the word out and
welcome you to the chamber and the com
munity,” Power said. “We’re very excited
to have you as part of the community; we
obviously need specialties just like this.”
Specialty Orthopaedics is located at 81
Prominence Court Suite 100 and is open
Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5
p.m. For more information, go to https://

This week, a second
grade class from Kilough
Elementary School raised
275 pounds of food and
$100 for the food pantry at
The Place of Dawson
County.
According to KES sec
ond grade teacher Kathy
Galati, the drive was part of
Kilough’s school-wide
Raise Craze Kindness
Fundraiser. Her class had
the idea to do a class proj
ect and collect food for The
Place, so they set a goal of
100 pounds of food and
$100. Her class challenged
Galati’s small group at
Browns Bridge church to
help meet their goal of 100
pounds, and in total the
class exceeded their goal,
collecting a total of 275
pounds of food and $100.
On Monday Oct. 17, sev
eral representatives from
The Place visited Galati’s
class to pick up the dona
tions and to teach the stu
dents about the needs in the
community and how the
food pantry strives to help
meet those needs. The 23
students in the class then
paraded down the school
halls behind their carts of
donations, standing on the
sidewalk in front of the
school and watching excit
edly as they watched the
food be loaded into the van.
According to Galati, she
is incredibly proud of her
students for their hard work
and dedication to their class
food drive.
“I’m very proud of the
kids who worked very hard
to help do something for
their community during
their Act of Kindness fund
raiser with the school,”
Galati said. “They did an

amazing job.”
Deborah Ross, the food
and services manager for
The Place, said that seeing
second graders in the com
munity set themselves a
goal of collecting food for
those in need is very
encouraging, as is being
able to visit the classroom
and talk to the students
about those needs in the
community they live in.
“I love that there’s an
awareness of it; I love that
food insecurity is part of
the conversation with
young people and it’s real
ly impactful when they
can contribute to their
community — it’s amaz
ing,” Ross said. “It’s just
so great; I’m proud of
them.”
