Dawson County Farm Bureau wins
award from Georgia Farm Bureau

The Dawson County
Farm Bureau was recently
recognized for its out
standing member pro
grams and agricultural
advocacy activities during
the 85th annual Georgia
Farm Bureau (GFB)
Convention.
According to a release
by the GFB, the Dawson
County Farm Bureau was
awarded with the GFB’s
Rewarding Excellence in
Ag Program (REAP)
Planter Award in the orga
nization’s medium mem
bership division.
The REAP award hon
ors county farm bureaus
for their organization and
membership, advocacy,
leadership development,
education and outreach
activities they did
between Sept. 1, 2021 and
Aug. 31, 2022. The REAP
awards are divided into
three tiers: Harvester
(first), Planter (second)
and Cultivator (third), and
five tier winners are
announced in each of the
GFB’s three membership
categories: small, medium
and large.
“Georgia Farm Bureau
is celebrating its 85th
anniversary this year,”
GFB President Tom
McCall said in the
release. “Our organization
has thrived since 1937
because of our dedicated
volunteer leaders and
county staff who work to
promote agriculture in
their local communities
by visiting schools to
teach students how farm
ers grow our food and

Dawson County’s
Planning Commission
will ring in the new year
with one new face and a
new person as its chair
man after the board mem
bers’ two-year terms
ended in December.
During their Dec. 15
voting session, the Board
of Commissioners reap
pointed multiple mem
bers to the planning board
and added a new person.
All of the appointees’
terms will end in
December 2024.
Planning Commission
Chairman Jason Hamby
appointed District 1
Commissioner Steve
Sanvi to succeed him in
the board’s leadership
role. Hamby will take up
the seat for District 1,
where he resides.
District 2
Commissioner John
Maloney will again take
up that seat.
Meanwhile, Shelton
Townley will replace Tim

Roberts has also been
accused of family vio
lence-related battery in
another 2022 case.
He allegedly committed
the various sexual crimes
on June 26, July 23 and
Oct. 20, according to 57
DCSO warrants served on
Nov. 28.
Collectively, the war
rants accused Roberts of
filming and possessing
more than a dozen explic
it videos of a 9-year-old
girl with whom he was
previously acquainted in
Dawson County and
allegedly having more
than 600 explicit photos
meeting with their elected
officials. It’s a pleasure to
recognize Dawson
County for the work they
have done to promote
agriculture in its commu
nity this past year.”
Dawson County Farm
Bureau’s president is
Wayne Bennett, and
Tammy Wood is the office
manager. Dawson County
Farm Bureau representa
tives were presented with
the award during the GFB
Convention, which was
held on Dec. 4 through 6
on Jekyll Island.

tion dates were too broad,
court documents stated.
Roberts remains at the
Dawson County
Detention Center without
