Two of Dawson County’s
furriest law enforcement offi
cers have recently received
their own top-of-the-line bul
let-proof vests, thanks to the
Georgia Police K9
Foundation.
According to a press
release by the nonprofit,
Dawson County Sheriff’s
Office K9s Jimmy and Arthur
have both received LOF
Streetfighter Vests, K9 pro
tective vests that have a soft
body armor specifically con
structed to be lightweight in
order to protect the Law
Enforcement K9 while also
helping keep the dog’s body
temperature down by avoid
ing a heavyweight vest.
“The fabric in the LOF
Streetfighter vest helps regu
late the K9’s body tempera
ture keeping them comfort
able and cool and are meant
to be worn for entire shifts so
that our four-legged officers
are protected at all times,” the
release said.
The vests are bullet-resis
tant and shield the dog’s vital
organs during any apprehen
sion that may involve track
ing or detaining a fleeing sus
pect before their accompany
ing human officer can take
full control.
“The Georgia Police K9
Foundation could not be more
excited knowing that we have
assisted in the protection of
our K9 officers against work-
related injuries and worse yet,
death,” the release said.
DCSO’s K9 Jimmy is a
two-year-old Belgian
Malinois and is a full patrol
canine. K9 Arthur is a six-
year-old Chocolate Labrador
and is an explosive detection
canine. Both love protecting
Dawson County residents, as
well as family time and meet
ing people in the community.

On Tuesday April 11,
a staple of the
Dawsonville communi
ty officially reopened
for business after being
closed for several
weeks of remodeling.
Chick-fil-A closed its
doors to the public on
Jan. 21 for the purpose
of remodeling and mak
ing the inside of the res
taurant better for both
employees and custom
ers. According to res
taurant owner and oper
ator Tony Kellar, the
goal of the remodel was
to allow for more room
for his employees to
serve customers effi
ciently.
“This is all about our
team members; giving
them space to work and
efficiently do their job,
because before we were
all just elbow-to-elbow
with each other and had
just very crowded work
conditions,” Kellar said.
“This just opens up our
kitchen and opens up
our drive-through area
inside.”
The renovations
include adding more
seating where the play
area used to be and

By Erica Jones

Visitors to the Rotary Island splash park
at Rock Creek Park in Dawson County this
summer will have much easier access to a
brand-new public restroom, thanks to the
Rotary Club of Dawson County’s club
project that will be completed very soon.
The restroom will be connected to the
pavilion next to the splash pad, and will be
convenient for children and parents who
are using the splash pad or the playground.
Currently, those needing a restroom have to
walk to the one further inside the park at
the recreation center.
