When DCHS tenth graders Shelby Martin, Megan Bearden and Brooklyn Phillips heard about local nonprofit Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP) and its mission of providing beds to chil dren in the community who don’t have their own bed to sleep in, they knew they wanted to help contribute to that goal. So throughout the month of October, the trio held a bedding drive, and twice since then they have also participated in bed building or delivering events with SHP. “Through the whole month of October we hosted a bedding and pillow drive and collected from all the schools in Dawson County except for Riverview, and then we also hosted it at the 4-H office and got donations from Fred’s Beds,” Martin said.
