The production was direct ed by DCHS junior Abigail Wright and DCHS senior Cadence Giovinazzi, both of whom are veterans of the stage but first-time directors. Canton man indicted following historic 2022 drug bust By Julia Hansen juliahansen@dawsonnews.com A second man has now been indicted after the Dawson County man arrested with him was for mally accused in connec tion with a historic 2022 drug bust in White County. Joshua McLaughlin, 36, was formally accused on several drug-related charg es, according to an indict ment filed Jan. 8, 2024. White County belongs to the Enotah Judicial Circuit, which also includes Lumpkin, Towns and Union counties. McLaughlin was McLaughlin Garnsey accused of allegedly trafficking more than 400 grams of meth- amphet- amine and over 28 grams of cocaine on or about Sept. 25, 2 0 2 2, according to the Jan. 8 indict ment. The indictment also accused McLaughlin of allegedly having fentan- yl, a schedule II con trolled substance; MDMA (also known as ecstasy), a schedule I drug; heroin, a schedule I drug; marijuana and Alprazolam with the intent to distribute those drugs. Authorities also cited him for speeding and having defective tires. In October 2023, Dawson County man Thomas Earl Garnsey, 50, was formally accused of allegedly trafficking methamphet- amine and crossing guard lines with drugs without consent. Garnsey and McLaughlin were both arrested in September 2022 following large drug seizures by the Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office, according to a prior press release from the agency. The arrests came in light of an investigation done by the White and Lumpkin County sher iff’s offices, Riverdale Police Department, Atlanta-Carolinas High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area pro gram and the ARDEO. Agents seized more than 168 grams of fen- tanyl, which the ARDEO called “the largest fen- tanyl seizure ever made inside of White County.” Court fdings show that Garnsey and McLaughlin are defen dants in separate pend ing criminal cases. Garnsey was released from the White County Jail on a $25,000 cash bond on Dec. 12, 2022, court documents stated. McLaughlin has been denied a reduction of his $500,000 bond, court documents filed Oct. 10, 2023 showed. McLaughlin was granted the sizable bond last January. The court’s denial of his bond reduction request cited several charges against him. DCN will continue to follow these court cases. GEORGIA Department of Natural Resources Environmental Protection division PUBLIC NOTICE Notice of Application for National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System Permit to Discharge Treated Wastewater Into Waters of the State of Georgia. The Georgia Environmental Protection Division has received a new NPDES permit application for the reissuance of an existing NPDES permit. Having reviewed such application, the Environmental Protection Division proposes to issue for a maximum term of five years the following permit subject to specific pollutant limitations and special conditions: Etowah Water and Sewer Authority, 1162 Highway 53 East, Dawsonville, GA 30534, NPDES Permit No. GA0050319, for the Dawson Forest Water Reclamation Facility located at 1349 Martin Road, Dawsonville, Georgia 30534. Up to 1.25 MGD of treated wastewater will be discharged to the Etowah River in the Coosa River Basin. The draft permit also includes effluent limitations and monitoring requirements for a future expanded flow of 2.5 MGD. Furthermore, the permit includes effluent limitations and monitoring requirements for the land application of up to 1.0 MGD of treated domestic wastewater to a dedicated site in Dawson County, which is currently permitted under LAS Permit No. GAJ020232. The LAS permit will be terminated upon authorization to operate under NPDES permit GA0050319. Persons wishing to comment upon or object to the proposed determinations are invited to submit same in writing to the EPD address below, or via e-mail at EPDcomments@dnr.ga.gov, no later than thirty (30) days after this notification. If you choose to e-mail your comments, please be sure to include the words “NPDES Permit Issuance - Dawson Forest Water Reclamation Facility - GA0050319 (Dawson County)” in the subject line to ensure that your comments will be forwarded to the correct staff. All comments received prior to or on that date will be considered in the formulation of final determinations regarding the application. A public hearing may be held where the EPD Director finds a significant degree of public interest in a proposed permit or group of permits.
