By Julia Hansen juliahansen@dawsonnews.com Dawson County’s Board of Commissioners chair will run for a third term, according to a recent press release. Incumbent BOC chairman Billy Thurmond announced his re-election candida cy ahead of the upcom ing primary election on May 21, 2024, where he will again run as a Republican, the press release stated. Thurmond was first elected to the BOC chair position in 2016 before being re-elected in 2020. Before that, he served for over three decades in public safety positions such as the county’s emergency ser vices director and in a dual role for the Parks and Recreation depart ment. “It has been an honor and privilege to serve the citizens of Dawson County over the past seven-plus years, and I look forward to continu ing to serve you,” Thurmond said about the commissioners chair position. “I want to thank the citizens for the support you have given me during these years.” “I love Dawson County and its citizens and have had the plea sure to live and work here my entire life,” Thurmond added. “I will continue to work hard for you to make Dawson County the best place to live, work and play.” VOTE NOW! 1.1.2024-1.31.2024 Local nonprofit organization now offers parenting classes By Julia Hansen juliahansen@dawsonnews.com An area nonprofit organization will soon offer English-only par enting classes at a com munity church, accord ing to a recent press release. The Place will host their “Love & Logic” parenting classes at Local Church Dawson starting the evening of Leb. 1, 2024. Classes will be held on Leb. 1, 8 and 15 from 6-8 p.m. at the church, which is located at 31 Successful Way in Dawsonville. The classes will teach parents how to balance practicing discipline without losing love and respect, an event flier stated. People interested in attending should plan to attend all three classes.
