Wednesday, June 5,2024 dawsonnews.com I DAWSON COUNTY NEWS I 5A Peachtree Orthopedics opens new office in Dawson County By Erica Jones ejones@dawsonnews.com Residents of Dawson County and surrounding areas now have a new option for orthopedic care, thanks to newly opened practice Peachtree Orthopedics. The new Dawson County office, located at 142 Prestige Lane Suite 600, is the newest location of the orthope dics practice, which also has a location in Cumming. The Dawson location has three doc tors and a physician's assistant (PA) who cover all facets of orthopedic care, including sports medicine, joints, non-operative spine and muscle care and more. For patients that need upper extremity services or surgery, the doc tors and PA can refer to their Cumming location and the surgery center there. The office also offers a urgent ortho pedics clinic, UrgentORTHO, which offers same-day care to patients, including walk-ins. “I see anything orthopedics related and I can filter from there to which specialist they need to see,” PA Cara Blenke, who runs the UrgentORTHO clinic, said. ‘‘We have x-ray here, we can cast and splint, suture and sew up lacerations — basically anything they'd do at the ER so you don't have to wait at the ER to do all that.” Peachtree Orthopedics has been providing orthopedic care to patients in the Atlanta area for over 70 years, and during that time the practice has expanded its reach greatly, growing to over 40 doctors in 12 locations. But despite that growth, the goal of the practice remains the same, Marketing Director Tom Bledsoe said, and that is to provide the highest-quality, person alized orthopedic care to its patients. ‘‘Despite our growth geographically and our size as a company, we try to maintain a very personal touch in everything,” Bledsoe said. ‘‘We know that's the key.” On Thursday May 30, the Dawson County Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to welcome Peachtree Orthopedics to the commu nity, followed by an open house by the practice. ‘‘Peachtree Ortho is really excited to be up here in the Dawsonville area and I really appreciate y'all welcoming us up here to your community,” Blenke said during the event. Impact fees are charged to developers to help fund a portion of public services, like roads or emergency services, to new buildings or residen tial communities. During the board’s May 2 meeting, Public Works Director Robert Drewry explained that he wants to take the existing survey and conceptual plan pro vided by the Georgia Department of Transportation for the Ga. 53 intersection and use it to hire an engineer. In turn, the engineering consulting firm would provide design services for a final concept plan, a set of construction docu ments and right of way acquisition documents. The right of way would also be up to the county, while the state would do the construction work for that project, he added. Funds of $200,000 have already been budget ed from county impact fees for engineering for Lumpkin Campground Road improvements. In April, the board approved an agreement with the Crosby Townhomes developer where the developer com mitted giving $400,000 to the county for fixes at the Highway 53-Lumpkin Campground Road inter section. That intersection also made the list of projects for the county’s one-per cent transportation sales tax (TSPLOST) that vot ers recently passed. This crossway is a part of $15.9 million in total for improvement projects along Lumpkin Campground Road. The Lumpkin Campground Road corri dor was studied in 2019 and again in 2023. The 2019 study and the coun ty’s 2023 comprehensive plan recommended fixes specifically at the route’s intersections with Ga. 53 and Grizzle and Industrial Park Road. The 2019 study called for more conceptual work before improvements could be designed for the Grizzle-Industrial Park Road intersection. Road recommendations includ ed putting in a one-lane roundabout and being mindful of existing utili ties and different topo graphic constraints. With approval of the professional services request, a consultant will now conduct an engineer ing and feasibility study and develop concepts for the proposed improve ments at the Grizzle- Industrial Park Road intersection.
