Driving the No. 17 Hendrick Motorsports car shared among the team’s four Cup Series drivers, Elliott held off Brandon Jones for the final 17 laps of the race. “Hats off to everybody at Hendrick Motorsports,” Elliott said. “Super special to win with the 17 on the car for the boss [Rick Hendrick] and [Hendrick’s wife] Linda. It’s a great honor here with the Ricky Hendrick scheme. It means a lot to all of us to be a part of this whenever it runs.” Earlier in the race, crew chief Greg Ives had Elliott stay out fol lowing the first caution of the day, allowing the team to save an extra set of tires late in the race. While Elliott surged toward the front using fresh tires, several contenders crashed out within the final 25 laps. Pole sitter Ty Gibbs and Stage 1 and 2 winner Justin Allgaier crashed out on lap 176, while Cole Custer and Austin Hill wrecked on lap 184. For Elliott, it was his first Xfinity Series win since the 2016 season opener at Daytona. He will make a second Xfinity Series entry in August at Darlington Raceway. idricHCars.com HUBLO- hublot TMCM Chase Elliott cel ebrates in victory lane after winning the NASCAR Xfinity Series BetMGM 300 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. From his days as the start ing quarterback at Dawson County High School to his time as a basketball player at the University of North Georgia, Tyler has had many opportunities to learn from others and lead by example. Now that the 2013 DCHS graduate is well into his professional career, all those years of personal growth have come full circle. For the past three years, Dominy has been paying forward the wisdom he’s gained by being a part of Junior Achievement — a global education nonprofit based in Cumming. There, Dominy has thrived in a directorial role where he helps put togeth er student support groups and partnerships that focus on assisting middle schoolers with career prep aration, financial literacy, and more. “I work with corporate partners, community part ners, colleges, and a whole host of different people to help organize and strate- gize people engagement to help support our pro grams,” he said. “It’s really been a perfect fit. I believe in the program and the impact it’s making in the community. Getting [stu dents] to start thinking about what life looks like as you grow into being an adult — it’s very power ful.” Meanwhile, he earned his Master of Public Administration degree from UNG in 2022 — also serving as a recruiter and athletic liaison for the school. For all of those achieve ments, Dominy maintains that his current place in life is a credit to the many impactful people he’s met along the way “Finding different ways that my coaches and men tors would push me to get outside my comfort zone and develop those leader ship skills — those are things I’m incredibly grateful for,” he said. “I was very lucky to have a lot of great leaders and coaches growing up.” One of those mentors is his former college basket ball coach, Chris Faulkner. Under the longtime head coach of UNG, Tyler was able to show both his ath letic skill and strong char acter. “Tyler had the type of personality that others instantly gravitated to,” Faulkner said. “Even early on in his career, other Photo courtesy of Tyler Dominy Tyler Dominy is using the skills he learned at DCHS and UNG in the professional field. He was always someone who was positive and carried him self in a way that others wanted to be like.” As much as Faulkner saw the progression of Dominy’s career, the coach himself was impact ed by the young man. “I think the biggest thing I learned from Tyler was kindness and grati tude,” he said. “I’ll never forget [that] when we offered him a scholarship, his response to me was ‘thank you’. Throughout his time at North Georgia, he was always friendly to everyone on campus and was always thankful for every opportunity he had.” Dominy is also grateful for the impact that his Dawson County upbring ing had on his life. From coaches Jeff Lee and Thad Burgess to many others, Tyler has always remem bered those that inspired him. See Dominy 12B Player Of The Week!
