Captain Hook was abandoned by his owner after getting into some fishing tackle in the
garage. The owner could not afford to have a hook removed from his lip. A staff member
paid to have it removed, and everyone immediately fell in love with Hook’s goofy person
ality and playful demeanor. He lived in a foster home and was very well mannered, but
now you can visit him at the shelter. He would love to take a walk with you. To adopt Cap
tain Hook or any of the other dogs and cats, visit pawsatlanta.org or stop by the shelter at
5287 Covington Highway in Decatur.

The 5th annual Humane Event
benefiting the Atlanta Humane Society
at the Westside Cultural Arts Center is
Sept. 12 from 7 to 10 p.m. Guests will
enjoy signature cocktails, delicious food,
live music, dancing, a silent auction and
adoptable puppies. Tickets are $55 per
person and include two drink tickets.
For open bar access, guests can purchase
tickets for $75. VIP tickets, which include
access to a VIP bar and food selection,

The Splish Splash Doggie Bath will
take place Oct. 4-5 at Piedmont Park’s
Aquatic Center. There will be a doggie
swim, music, raffles, giveaways and more.
Times are 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. or 2:15 to
3:30 p.m. Children under 12 are not
allowed at the event because of safety
concerns. Register at piedmontpark.org.
Lifeline Animal Project has marked
a major success in managing the DeKalb
County Animal Services shelter. Since
it took over the shelter in July 2013, pet
adoptions have increased by more than
300 percent and reduced the euthanasia
rate to an all-time low of 13 percent. New
protocols were also introduced to prevent
disease among the animals. OS
