McIntosh's Eisele Honored
as State Econ Teacher of Year
McIntosh High’s Jason Eisele has been honored for his excellence in
teaching by the Georgia Council on Economic Education (GCEE). Eisele
is the 2023 Georgia Economics Teacher of the Year.
Each year, GCEE honors an outstanding K-12 classroom teacher who
has contributed to economic and personal finance education through his
or her exceptional teaching skills.
Eisele, who is the school’s social studies department chair and boys’
varsity basketball coach, is the first winner from Fayette County Public
Schools since 2015.
Southern Crescent Chorale Presents
‘O Be Joyful! 9 at Spivey Hall March 5
FAYETTE — After a two-
season pause due to covid,
Southern Crescent Chorale
officials say they are
thrilled to return to world-
renowned Spivey Hall to
present “O Be Joyful!”
on Sunday, March 5, at 3
p.m.
Sponsored by Dr.
Frank and Deb Cole, the
15th appearance at the hall
will be an “exciting pro
gram of music featuring
great choral classics,” in
cluding Durante’s Magnif
icat. Pieces by Gounod,
Busto, Wilberg, Rutter,
and others will round out
this “joyful” concert.
Collaborative pianist
Steve Shivers and organist
Justin Maxey will lend
their talents to the event.
Each of these musi
cians will play a solo on
Spivey’s grand piano or
the Albert Schweitzer Me
morial Organ. The world-
class acoustics of Spivey
Hall make this concert a
favorite of both patrons
and singers.

Writers Win at Griffin
RESA Literacy Day Festival
Within the county, the
youth of Fayette continue
to soar and set the bar
high in areas of academic
excellence. In the recent
competition, the winners’
podium was filled with
local faces at the 2023
Griffin RESA Regional
Literacy Days competi
tion for middle schoolers.
Clayton Mayfield of
Whitewater Middle won
for sixth-grade poetry
recitation. Karmari More
land placed second for
eighth graders.
Allie Kemp of Rising
Starr Middle won for
eighth-grade ready writ
ing. Zehra Sorrow of
Whitewater Middle
placed second for sixth
graders, and Avery Lind-
seth placed second for
seventh graders.
For poetry recitation,
students are judged on
stage presence, articula
tion, interpretation, diffi
culty of piece, and
memory and accuracy.
They can earn extra
points for fluency, ges
tures, and expression.
Ready writers are
given a prompt and are
asked to write on the spot
without any prior prepa
ration. Students have one
hour to complete their
piece, which is judged on
ideas, organization, and
style.

Fayette Senior Services Releases March Community Calendar
FAYETTE — With February coming
to a brisk close, Fayette Senior Services
has been working diligently to design and
make fun engagement opportunities for
the senior community in Fayette County.
From following the bird migrations at
The Gathering Place in Peachtree City to
learning new recipes at The Life Enrich
ment Center, Fayette Senior Services has
created a community calendar listing of
all the events for the month of March.

The Great Migration — Thurs
day, March 2 — 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. —

Trail: Migration is a fascinating and
mysterious phenomenon that plays a
critical role in the lives of numerous
species of birds. Many of these birds ac
complish staggering feats of flight during
their annual journeys. Melissa Paduani
with Georgia Audubon explores the
science and physiology of migration, as
well as some of the hurdles birds face
during their voyage. Melissa will be join

Tomato, Tamato — Wednesday,
March 8 — 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. — FSS

Trail: We are getting closer to the time
for delicious, ripe, and juicy tomatoes in
Georgia, but before then we have to plant
them! Tom Bonnell, retired from the
UGA Cooperative Extension Office, will
teach us all we need to know to grow our
very own tomatoes in our back yard.
From the different types and how to
choose them to the best ways to plant,
maintain, harvest, and store, participants
will leave with a new knowledge to have
more tomatoes than one can imagine this
upcoming season. This program is FREE

as she shares her secrets to cooking
healthy and delicious during this cooking
demonstration. Eating a meal packed

get tips to cooking your way to a healthier

largest precision formation flying team.
Several members from the Full Throttle
Formation Team share stories of their
time in the air. This group performs all
around the country at air shows and are
based right here in our own backyard,
hangered at the Atlanta Regional Airport
Falcon Field in Peachtree City. Hear
about the background on plane forma
tion, stories from their flying days, and
information about their favorite perform
ances. Also view some video and photo
content from some of their best perform

In the Moment — Monday,

Drive: The Southside Sidekicks are the
hilarious improv troupe from Southside
Theatre Guild in Fairburn, Metro At
lanta’s oldest, all-volunteer, community
theater. Join them as they present a fast-
paced and fun show based entirely upon
attendees’ suggestions. This will be en
tertaining and interactive, to say the
least, and will keep you on the edge of

ical Therapists Megan McLain and Ash
ley Irvin with Intuitive Choice PT, as they
walk and talk while discussing some pop
ular senior health and fitness topics and
answers questions you may have. There
is no better way to start getting in shape
than getting your steps in while learning
how to improve your routine! Wear com
fortable shoes and take advantage of the
cart path trails surrounding the Peach
tree City location. The walk will be light
and the pace will be set to fit everyone’s

now, focus on the developers, mayors,
citizens, and minds that came together to
enable Peachtree City to grow into the
award-winning city we all enjoy today.
