Edward "Ed" B.
Kleppinger, III
Edward “Ed” B. Klep
pinger, III, died on April n,
2023, at the age of 51.
He was born Jan. 19,
1972, to Edward and Rose
Marie Kleppinger. A 1991
graduate of Jonesboro Sen
ior High School, where he
played for the Cardinal
baseball team, he went on
to earn his bachelor’s de
gree in criminal justice
from Georgia State Univer
sity in 1994.
From there, he began to
fulfill his lifelong dream of
a career in law enforce
ment. He began working for
the Georgia Bureau of In
vestigation in 1995, where
he served on the SWAT
team. On Sept. 11, 2001, he
accepted a position with
FEMA - later Homeland Se
curity - advancing to the po
sition of assistant special
agent in charge.
Among numerous
awards, he received the Sec
retary’s Award for Excel
lence in 2008, presented to
him personally by the Sec
retary of Homeland Secu
rity in Washington, D.C. Ed
also held many other billets
during his career, as well as
many certifications and li
censes.
On the personal side, Ed
led his One Another Sunday
school class for more than
10 years at Fayetteville First
Baptist Church, where he
was a member for more
than 20 years.
He also loved and cher
ished his family. He was
very proud of his wife of 28
years, Devy Lowe Klep
pinger, and of his five chil
dren, whose lives he
enriched by actively coach
ing their teams, attending
their events, and cheering
them on, rain or shine.
He was never late, and
he believed in “safety first”
to the extreme. He was the
dad and uncle who threw
kids in the pool, played
games, pulled pranks, told
jokes, sang songs, and loved
beyond compare. To know
him was to love him. He will
be deeply missed.
Ed was preceded in
death by his father, Ed
Kleppinger, Jr.; and father
and mother-in-law, Arley
and Jan Lowe.
He is survived by his
wife, Devy; his children,
Parker (fiance Ethan Fer
nandez), Greyson (girl
friend Ansley Gregg),
Cooper, Samuel, and
Caden; his mother, Rose;
his brother, Michael; his
brother-in-law, Jon Lowe
(Paula); his sister-in-law,
Courtney Joiner (Michael);
his nephew, Wilson Joiner
(Madison); and his niece,
Samantha Joiner.
Funeral services were
held Sunday, April 16,
2023, in the Overton
Chapel at Fayetteville First
Baptist Church. Dr. Jim
Thomas, Rev. Keith Lou-
than, and Rev. Jim Battles
officiated. The family re
ceived friends Saturday,
April 15 at the funeral
home. Burial was held at
Westminster Memorial
Gardens in Peachtree City.
Pallbearers were
members of Ed’s breakfast
club, with honorary pall
bearers being his colleagues
at the Department of
Homeland Security Office
of Inspector General.
In lieu of flowers, dona
tions may be made in Ed’s
memory to Tunnels to

Fayetteville’s Trilith
Studios made the cut for
Urbanize Atlanta’s Sub
urban Smackdown tour
nament to determine the
“best town” outside of
the Atlanta perimeter.
The Suburban
Smackdown tournament
included 16 well-pop
ulated towns around At
lanta that competed
March Madness-style to
identify which one
would be victorious.
For two weeks, res
idents throughout Geor
gia voted online for their
respective towns to
make it through each
round, as there were no
criteria that needed to
be met.
Trilith was the 16th
seed, and their first
matchup was against the
number-one seed, Al
pharetta.
Trilith lost in the first
round of the tournament
while Alpharetta went
on to win the next two
rounds to advance to the
finals.
The final round con
sisted of Alpharetta
against Duluth, with Al
pharetta emerging vic
torious.
