Across our country,
100% smoke-free communities
are the 'new normal.'
More than ever, businesses are
embracing the importance of
protecting their bottom linej
AND the health of their
employees and custom
(S)
As secondhand smoke exposure is a leading cause of preventable
death, 28 states have passed 100% smoke-free laws that include
restaurants, bars, and workplaces.
While 66.5 percent of the U.S. is protected by these policies, only
23 percent of Georgians are covered. Why? Georgia is not among
those 28 states, so cities and counties here are beginning to pass
comprehensive smoke-free laws of their own.
Did you know the city of Atlanta is 100% smoke free? So are
Savannah, Chatham County, Augusta, and Gwinnett County.
That's definitely progress! In addition to protecting non-smokers
from secondhand smoke, 100% smoke-free laws help encourage
smokers to quit and discourage smoking among young people.
Fayette County, we can join Georgia's other smoke-free cities and
counties in taking this meaningful step in creating an even
healthier community. Let's work together to clear the air!
BREATHE EASY FAYETTE
We are a group of residents and local and national
organizations working to protect our Fayette County
neighbors' rights to enjoy smoke-free air—while
continuing to respect the rights of those who smoke.
