Names McClarty
New President, CEO
FAYETTEVILLE - Following a nation
wide executive search for a visionary leader
to head Fayette County Chamber of Com
merce, chamber officials announced that
Leonardo McClarty, CCE, IOM has been se
lected as the organization’s new president
and chief executive officer.
McClarty will take the helm of the
Chamber on Nov. 6.
McClarty currently serves as the pres
ident and CEO of Howard County Chamber
in Maryland, where he has been responsible
for the strategic direction and growth of the
organization since 2014. His specific duties
largely centered around organizational
leadership, fiscal management, marketing
and program management, public policy,
and community relations.
Prior to serving Howard County,
McClarty was director of economic and
community development for the City of
York, Pa. where he was responsible for pro
moting the city to the private sector in ef
forts to foster economic investment and
neighborhood redevelopment.
A native of the Atlanta area, McClarty
served as president/CEO of DeKalb
Chamber of Commerce for nearly 10 years.
A career chamber and economic devel
opment professional, McClarty has also
worked for the City of Roswell, DeKalb
County, and the Georgia Department of

Aaron Edge has an
nounced his candidacy for
Town of Brooks Council
Post 5. Edge is a local entre
preneur, business owner,
and father of three, and has
been a Brooks resident for
more than seven years.
"I am running to serve
the community and bring a
fresh perspective on the issues our small town
faces," Edge said.
According to a press release from Edge, one
of his greatest strengths lies in his ability to listen
and understand the concerns of Brooks citizens.
He firmly believes that a thriving community is
built upon the values of collaboration and open
dialogue at the local level. Through his empa-

“For 38 years, Fayette
County has been my home,
where I have set roots and
grown as a student, an em
ployee, an investor, a small
business owner, and now a father.
“Growing up in Peachtree City next to the
Cowans, I saw the firsthand importance and ded
ication it takes to build a safe community for gen
erations to come. Moving to Tyrone as a
teenager, I experienced the freedom of country
life with the small town feel and charm.
“Renovating a rough cabin on 12 acres I called

for 30 years, and a council
member for more than 13
years. He has raised three
children in Brooks and says
he is passionate about main
taining the small-town at
mosphere that residents
appreciate.
In his time serving on the council, Speer tells
Fayette County News that he has been instru
mental in the completion of many projects, in
cluding remodels of Brooks Town Hall, Brooks
Library, and the old fire station. The renovations
of Brooks Chapel and Hardy Hall were also com
pleted to help generate revenue for the town.
