GBI Investigating FPD Officer-Involved Shooting
Armed 20-y ear-old Man Injured, Transported to Grady for Treatment
At the request of Fay
etteville Police Department,
the Georgia Bureau of Inves
tigation is investigating an
officer involved shooting
which occurred Saturday af
ternoon near Paces Drive
and Beauregard Boulevard,
according to a GBI state
ment.
Tavares Sanchez Rich
ardson, 20, was shot and in
jured, and was transported
to Grady Hospital in Atlanta
for treatment. No officers
were injured in the incident.
FPD officers were dis
patched to the area of Paces
Court in reference to a driver
who had “pulled over to re
port a domestic dispute
which involved another male
and female occurring in the
back seat of the vehicle,” ac
cording to an FPD press re
lease. The caller said the
male fled on foot, wearing a
grey jumpsuit, and pos
sessed a firearm.
Officers stopped the sub
ject, Richardson, and asked
for identification. In re
sponse, Richardson grabbed
a gun from his waistband
and began to run, according
to the GBI statement. An of
ficer fired shots and struck
Richardson, then police ad
ministered first aid on the
scene before Richardson was
transported for treatment.
The investigation is ac
tive and ongoing, GBI per
sonnel said. Anyone with

completed, the case file will
be forwarded to the Griffin
Judicial Circuit District At

This is 99th officer in
volved shooting the GBI has
been asked to investigate in
2023.

HQ and National Training Center
Atlanta - Gov. Brian P.
Kemp announced that the
U.S. Soccer Federation will
move its headquarters and
construct a first-of-its-kind
national training center in
Fayette County, creating
440 new jobs through a
$228 million investment.
State and local officials,
U.S. Soccer Board
members, and athletes will
celebrate this new era for
the organization on Dec. 13
at the Town Stage at Trilith.
“After announcing in
September that U.S. Soccer
was coming to Georgia, it’s
exciting to officially wel
come them to their new
home in Fayette County,”
said Gov. Kemp. “U.S. Soc
cer joins a long and proud
tradition of sports in the
Peach State, including our
fast-growing soccer fanbase.
This project will solidify
Georgia's position at the
forefront of this increasingly
popular sport, from the suc
cess of our own Atlanta
United team to the FIFA
World Cup 2026 events in a
few short years.”
Earlier this year, U.S.
Soccer first announced it
had narrowed its location
search for the new training
center and headquarters to
metro Atlanta. The facility
will serve as the national
center for training and com
petition of all 27 ofU.S. Soc
cer’s men's, women’s,
youth, and extended na
tional teams; the devel
opment of youth players;
coaching and referee train
ing; and will help drive the
overall growth of soccer’s
popularity in the U.S.

PTC Holds Chanukah Celebration

Since Dec. 7, families
around the world have been
celebrating the Festival of
Lights, and The Chabad of
Peachtree City and The
Southside hosted its ninth
annual Chanukah Light for
Israel celebration at Drake
Field on Dec. 10.
The event began with a
golf cart parade at the boat
landing at Lake Kedron.
Golf carts, topped with me-
norahs, made their way to
Drake Field. Despite the
constant drizzle and
frequent wind, about too
people gathered inside the
pavilion.
The celebration at Drake
Field included music, face
painting, hot chocolate,
doughnuts, and latkes. The
crowd watched as an artist
sculpted the Grand Ice Me-
norah.
Rabbi Yossi led a ser
mon highlighting the sym
bolism and meaning behind
Chanukah and the Meno-
rah. With the assistance of
Peachtree City Mayor Kim
Learnard, Rabbi Yossi lit
four candles, one for each
night of Chanukah as of
Dec. 10.
To conclude the cere
mony, Peachtree City Fire
Department led a gelt drop

Johnson Beats Moore
in PTC Council Runoff

secured 78 percent of votes
to handily defeat opponent

Peachtree City Council Post 1
representative during the
Dec. 5 runoff.
Johnson tallied 2,919
votes, compared to Moore’s
824 (22 percent), according
to Fayette County Elections
officials.
Johnson will be sworn in
to take office in January.
Election results are unof
ficial and have yet to be cer
tified by the board of
elections, according to elec
tion officials on Dec. 6.
During the Nov. 7 elec
tion, both Johnson and
Moore were neck and neck at
the ballot box, but Johnson

secured more votes (2,481
compared to Moore’s 1,768).
Both candidates secured
more votes than contender
Eric Imker, but Johnson did
not earn more than 50 per
cent of total votes cast, neces
sitating the runoff.
Current Post 1 represen
tative Phil Prebor did not
seek re-election.
