Wednesday, January 31,2024 OBITUARIES A2 Fayette County News Historic Church & Cemetery Receive Liberty Tree Bloise Hill, Marc Potteiger, Lynn Edge, Terry Smith, and Doug Powell plant a Liberty Tree at His toric Hopeful Baptist Church and Cemetery. Submitted Joyce Travis Joyce Travis, age 84, of Peachtree City, passed away Jan. 17, 2024. She was born in Riverdale to the late Mamie and Emory Travis. She graduated from Fayette County High School in Fayetteville. Joyce loved traveling and helping people as she and her dog, Bella, visited nursing homes as a pet therapist. She is survived by two daughters, Jackie Estes and Jennifer Gelinas; five grandchildren, Jer emy Parker, Jacob Parker, DJ Gelinas, Dan iel Gelinas, and Paige Smith; and four great grandchildren. A celebration of life memorial service will be held at Dogwood Church in Tyrone on Feb. 10 at 2 p.m. The family will gather with friends from 1-1:45 P-m- Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared with the Travis family at www.carmichaelhemper- leypeachtree.com. Historic Hopeful Primi tive Baptist Church and Cemetery is the recipient of a Liberty Tree, as Fayette’s Lafayette Chapter of Sons of the American Revolution, America250, veterans, and community leaders recently presented and planted the tree. During the American Revolutionary War, Sons of Liberty gathered under his toric trees called Liberty Trees. These trees became symbols of American free dom. “Historic Hopeful Cem etery is the final resting place of veterans spanning the history of the United States,” said Hopeful Church trustee Lynn Edge. “We are honored to have this iconic symbol of Amer ica and pray future genera tions will look proudly on what it represents. Trees are living witnesses to our past, present, and future." “In remembrance of these historic trees and meetings, we are pleased to participate in this national tree planting effort,” said Bloise Hill, Sons of the American Revolution. Marc Potteiger added, “America250 a nonpartisan effort working to engage every American leading up to and including our 250th Anniversary of the United States.
