Wednesday, April 3,2024 OBITUARIES A2 Fayette County News Mrs. Evelyn Bailey Farr Mrs. Evelyn Bailey Farr, 90, passed away Sunday morning, March 24, 2024. She was a teacher for 33 years in the Fayette County system, beginning as a sub stitute teacher, then working as a para-professional at Hood Avenue Elementary School. Later she attended Clayton State College and West Georgia University and earned her bachelor’s, master’s, and T-6 degrees in teaching and applied those skills to help remedial reading and math students reach state standards. She was awarded a re search prize for her work in the study of birth order in children and how it affected their learning. She taught for several years at North Fayette Elementary School. She leaves behind thou sands of loving students and a legacy of awards and honors, including numerous “Teacher of the Year” honors. Evelyn was a member of Fayetteville First Baptist Church, taught the five- year-old class for many years, and later welcomed them back as high school or college graduates. She was an ageless beauty with a confident personality that led others to think that she was much younger than she was. A devoted wife and mother, she is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, F. M. Farr, and sev eral beloved chihuahuas. She is survived by her daughter, Anne (Jim) Har din; son, Allan (Marina) Farr; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. Evelyn was the most cre ative, imaginative, and lov ing woman one could want to be in their lives. She could always be found with a ball of thread and crochet hooks or knitting needles to make a blanket for the next new resident of the county. If she couldn’t find instructions for what she wanted to make, she made it up, and it was always better than any pat tern. She was a devoted Chris tian and lived her life to the fullest every day. She was an angel on Earth and is now an angel in Heaven, and the hole she leaves in every heart can never be filled. Evelyn’s funeral service was held Friday, March 29, 2024, at noon, in the chapel of Mowell Funeral Home in Fayetteville, with Rev. Jim Battles and Rev. Jack Miller officiating. Visitation oc curred prior to the service from 11 a.m. to noon at the funeral home. Evelyn was laid to rest at Sharon Memorial Gardens following the service. Evelyn’s favorite flowers were pansies. Attendees were asked to wear pansy colors to the service to re mind all of her love for flowers and joy of bright colors. Mrs. Nell Howell Ned Howell, 81, passed away peacefully on Thurs day, March 28, 2024, at home with family by her bedside. Ned was born on Thurs day, May 7, 1942, at St. Jo seph’s Hospital in Savannah, Chatham County, Ga. She was the third child of the seven children of her parents, James Perry and Opa Reta Akins. In 1959, Ned met her fu ture husband at South Gar dens Baptist Church in Savannah. They dated, and in October i960 became en gaged to be married. Her husband-to-be received or ders to report in November i960 for 12 months at Thule Air Base, Greenland. On Nov. 12, 1961, she married Hubert Wayne Howell, the son of John Luther Howell and Mary Etta Howell of Vidalia, at her parents’ home, with the pastor from South Gardens Church presiding. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Amanda Eber; parents; and sisters, Shelby (Bobby) Akins Dooley and Linda (James) Akins Dooley. Ned is survived by her husband of 62 years, Wayne Howell of Griffin; son, Rich ard (Kim) Howell of Fay etteville; grandchildren, Niki Westbrooks of Fay etteville, Joshua Gerald of Birmingham, Zachary (Amber) Howell of Newnan, Dannie (Nick) Sims of Fay etteville, Cameron Gerald of Fayetteville; nine great grandchildren; sisters, Patsy Murrell of Brandon, Fla. and Janis (Jimmy) McTier of Eatonton; and brothers, James (Vicki) Akins and Dan (Susan) Akins of Rin con. Ned graduated from Jenkins High School in i960 and retired as a state elec tions coordinator in the Sec retary of State’s office. Ned accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal savior and was baptized many years ago at South Gardens Baptist Church in Savannah. She was pre viously a member of Ahava Baptist Church (formerly Bonanza Baptist church) in Jonesboro and was an active member for many years of Fayetteville First Baptist Church in Fayetteville. A funeral service was held Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Fayetteville First Baptist Church in the Over- ton chapel, with Rev. Jack Miller and Rev. Glenn Stringham officiating. Visitation occurred Monday, April 1, 2024, at Mowed Funeral Home in Fayetteville, from 5-8 p.m. The family requests in lieu of flowers that a memo rial contribution be made to Fayetteville First Baptist Church, Fayetteville, Ga.
