Wednesday, April 3,2024 Fayette County News A3 lyrone Hosts First Quarter ‘Talk of the Town’ Animal Shelter Moves to New Location April 8 Dylan Shoemaker Staff Writer dshoemaker@fayette-news.net Officials in the Town of Tyrone held the 2024 first quarter “Talk of the Town” on March 25, led by Town Manager Brandon Perkins, highlighting municipal growth and potential eco nomic impacts related to the town’s future land use map and the county’s compre hensive plan. “They relied on that one industry to power their town or to drive the economics of their town, and when that plant goes away, the town goes away with it,” Perkins said regarding a sole indus try providing job opportuni ties. “So, over the years we have learned to diversify our economics in different in dustries, and that’s the goal.” On March 25, Fayette Chamber of Commerce an nounced the appointment of David Conti as the new direc tor of membership. Conti brings more than 20 years of knowledge and expertise to the chamber with an extensive background in marketing and business de velopment. In his role, Conti will lead efforts to enhance member ship through fostering en gagement, cultivating strategic partnerships, and driving value for the chamber’s business com munity, according to officials. Working alongside FCC Pres ident Leonardo McClarty, the experienced business devel oper will play a role in strengthening connections among local businesses and nurturing collaboration for economic advancement. Tyrone’s main funding comes from residential property taxes rather than commercial, according to Perkins, who added that commercial additions to the community can sustain lower taxes for homeowners. Also announced was the completion of the multi-use golf cart path along Tyrone Road and the new pickleball facility at Dorothea Redwine Park. Prior to joining the chamber, Conti served as marketing leader and busi ness unit owner over three consumer electronics brands spend money outside of the area. “The town itself doesn’t have any plans right now to build cart paths to PTC,” said Perkins. “Reason being - our goal with cart paths is to get people to our downtown and shopping centers and stay in town.” Perkins added that these projects establish amenities that potentially drive more industries to Tyrone, allow ing for economic growth, but being managed by city ordi nances to ensure certain re strictions remain in place. The municipality con tracted SAFEbuilt to admin ister Tyrone’s code enforcement. Homeowner’s associa tions along Castlewood Road were notified about a private enterprise’s fiber optic net working project that might cause disruptions, and some HOAs expressed concern about dirt being dug on their neighborhood properties. Town officials ensured the company has acquired all necessary permits for lawful construction. “Talk of the Town” ses sions are held quarterly for town officials and the public but do not include a quorum of the town council, allowing for more casual and inter active discussion without opening a formal council meeting. Tickets are available at The Fayette County Animal Shelter is relocat ing to 1131 South Highway 74 in Peachtree City. Officials will be avail able at the new location starting Monday, April 8. The department will be fully operational at 1262 Highway 74 South in Peachtree City until Fri day, April 5.
