During early voting, ballots may be cast between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday- Friday, and on Saturdays, Oct. 18 and Oct. 25. Councilwoman Suzanne Brown moved to See Moratorium, A8 Tyrone to Begin Rec Renovations Council Approves 2026 AMWaste Rate Increase Dylan Shoemaker Reporter dshoemaker@fayette-news.net Tyrone Town Council met Oct. 2 and awarded Action Plumbing a $14,980 contract for plumbing renovations at the town’s recreational facil- ity. “As y’all recall, in De cember of 2022 the facility had water damage as a result of a frozen water line,” said Public Works Director and Town Engineer Scott Lang ford. The project is funded through 2017 special purpose local option sales tax proceeds and the general fund. “They are going to be fin ishing up the bathrooms first. I am assuming that would be the priority there first?” asked Councilman Billy Campbell. The primary change re moves the need for mayor and council consensus to deter mine if an item warrants being added to the agenda. The ordinance was last Georgia Power Schedules Public Input Meetings for Transmission Line Project Georgia Power Company recently released a notice of two upcoming public meet ings for input on its ongoing Ashley Park-Wansley 500kV Transmission Line project. Construction of the line “is needed to ensure safe and reliable electric service to commercial and residential customers in the surrounding area,” according to the notice. Langford, a seventh-generation Brooks resident on his father’s side and a sixth-genera tion Fayette resident on his mother’s, was first elected to the Brooks Town Dan Langford Council in 1998 and has served continuously since then as either a council member (1998-2008), zoning administrator (2008-09), or mayor (since 2010). See Langford, A6 Fayette County Fire and Emergency Services announced Oct. 2 a major mile stone in its commitment to excellence in emergency medical services education: “The Fayette County Fire and Emer gency Services [Advanced-EMT] program holds a Letter of Review, which is not a [Commission on Accreditation and Allied Health Education Program] accreditation status, but is a status granted by the Com mittee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Serv ices Professions signifying that a program seeking initial accreditation has demon strated sufficient compliance with the ac creditation standards through the Letter of Review Self-Study Report and other doc umentation. However, it is not a guarantee of eventual accreditation,” officials shared. The achievement signifies that the AEMT program has demonstrated satis factory compliance with rigorous core standards and guide lines for accredita tion established by CAAHEP. Fayette’s AEMT program is now one of the elite few to Chief Jeffrey Hill reach this status nationwide, according to officials, and it is the first AEMT program in Georgia to receive a CoAEMSP LoR.
