Parker One of the most useful congress men from Georgia is the Honorable Homer C. Parker, of the First Con gressional District, whom we believe will be overwhelmingly endorsed by the voters of his district at the Sep tember primary. Mr. Parker has made a magnifi cent record, and has just received a letter from Mr. James A. Farley, Chairman of the Democratic National Committee, in which Air. Farley speaks of tho fine spirit of coopera tion Mr. Parker has shown in his relations with the democratic ad ministration. The following is a copy of Mr. Farley’s letter to Mr. Parker: Washington. July 5, 1934 Honorable Homer C. Parker House of Representatives Washington, D. C. My dear Homer: Now that Congress has adjourned, may I not take this opportunity to thank you for the fine spirit of coop eration that you have exhibited with Farmers Paid Part Money Work was started today on the final checkup of acre measurements given in federal [cotton contracts by farmers of Burke County. In the Midville district, the work is being handled by a cocmitteeo composed of Charlie B, Seeger, Homer Smith and H. C. Taylor. About 80 per cent of the checks for the first half of the amount due the farmers has already been received, The other half will be paid as soon as the corrected measurements have been forwarded to Washington. This money paid to Burke county farmers has stimulated local business. reference to the national administra tion. It is my honest judgment that the record of the seventy third congress will go down in history as an epoch making achievement, dedi cated as it was to the benefit of tho people of this country. I want you to know how apprecia- tive I am of your fine spirit of help fulness. The seventy third congress can stand on its record. For the constructive legislation, for the far- seeing vision, for the understanding of the human needs of the people of the country, you as a member of this 1st Cattle Enroute Tho first shipment of Western cattle is now enroute, and will arrive in Midville in a few days. 200 cows have been alloted to Will McMillan, who has about 800 acres devoted to pasturage on the McKinney farms in Emanuel county, three miles from here. These cows will be kept in Midville 72 hours, while they are being tested for tuberculosis and other diseases prevalent among cat tle. It is understood 200 cows will be placed on the land of the Emanu el County Farm Co., at Blundale, and other allotments will be sent to this section. congress can well be proud. And when you return for the seventy fourth congress next year, I am sure you will be just as helpful in the furtherance of the new pro gram of social legislation which President Roosevelt has put forward as a goal for the next two years of his administration. With kind regards, believe me. Sincerely yours, (Signed) JAS. A. FARLEY, Chairman Democratic National Ad Committee. Revival Postponed _ Revival services which were to "begin at Summertown Methodist Church last Sunday have been put off to begin Wednesday evening, July 25th and continue through 5th Sun day in this month. Come to the meeting. Pray for the meeting, and lead a helping hand that we may have a great meeting. A. C. PRICKETTE, Pastor. PROVIDE MARKETS For FARMERS His PURPOSE Columbus Roberto Columbus Roberts, farmer, dairyman and manufacturer, seeks your support lor Commissioner of Agriculture in ihe Democratic primary, proposing to set up a system ol marketing that will enable Georgia farmers to sell the products of their farms at a profit, which will result j in prosperity for the slate (Jn 28, 10t) | ANNOUNCEMENT To the Citizens of Burke County: You have been good enough to elect me your Representative for three suc cessive terms, once without opposition and twice with opposition Both times I had opposition I personally supported the winning gubernatorial candidate; but neither time I had opposition did I in any way connect my candidacy with that ol any gubernatorial candidate in order to be elected, and in my race for the Senate this year I am not going to do so. I have good friends supporting different candidates for Governor, and I hope to receive support from all sides. I publicly announced my intention to run for the State Senate long before any candidate announced again ft the present Governor, and 1 was going to run my own race regardless ol whether he had opposition or not. I am running abso lutely on my own initiative and responsi bility and not on the merits or demerits of any gubernatorial candidate. If cleded, I shall cooperate with the Governor, whoever he may be, as far as I can con scientiously do so. Anyone who is familiar with my record knows 1 have always atfed on principle and not from any selfish or partisan motives. Space will not permit me to give a detailed platform here, but I will be glad to tell anyone how 1 stand on any legis lative queftion in which he may be inter ested. All 1 ask is that you inquire of me personally, and that you do not ac cept hearsay evidence on any question. When I was in the minority and my I attitude was generally unpopular, I voted and worked for the diversion cf highway funds to aid the common schools and Confederate pensioners; and I shall cer tainly be happy to do it again. I shall vote to ratify the Governor’s action on the Three Dollar Tag, and I shall never vote to collect any suspended tag taxes As to the future price of motor vehicle tags, Three Dollars is all right for passenger automobiles and ncn-commercial trucks; but I do believe that heavy common carrier trucks and busses should pay more, As to the suspended Public Service Commissioners, two of them arc running in the coming Primary: and, if the people do not vote to elect them, I will never vote to reinstate any of them. The record will show that I have al ways been a true friend to the common schools, There is always a lot of talking about the school question before election, but unforunarcly very little is ever done about it afterward. Our schools need better financial support, and I want them to get it. Intangible properly is almost entirely escaping taxation. Tax it at a low rate; put it on the tax books; and we shall have several million dollars a year more revenue which can be used to finance our schools and institutions and also to reduce the advalorcm lax on our homes and farm lands. I favor home Rule (or our counties and municipalities so that local matters may be settled inside the political subdivisions without the interference I of tho Legislature. I favor a four -eqr term for the. Governor.rot sub- jeetto reelection, and the creation of the office of a Lieutenant-Governor to be elected by the people for tho purpose of presiding over the Senate and succeeding the Governor in case of his death or disability. I shall continue to advocate tho creation of a judicial council in order that court procedure may be simplified, business expedited and justice better adminis tered. Above all I stand for honesty in government and personal courage to do the right regardless of political pressure or expediency. I ask your vote and support in the Democratic White Primary to bo held on Sep tember 12tb. Respectfully yours. JOHN J. JONES.
