Anthony Culver, 24, of 50 Smith Dr. in Sparta, was arrested and charged with three counts of burglary, with potential for addi tional charges pending. According to a press release from the MPD, the incident occurred around 1 a.m. Monday, July 17. Milledgeville officer Ryan Chappie responded to the residence where a burglary was already in progress. “Upon arriving at the location, Georgia College PD officer Chris Powell already had the suspect in custody,” according to the release. Major Michael Hudson, MPD Criminal Investigations Commander, said they believe Culver might be responsible for other break-ins which have occurred in the area. According to the incident report, Culver had taken a pink bag, which contained a $10 Jamaican Coin, two $20 Jamaican coins and a bobblehead of Los Angeles Angels first baseman Albert Pujols. Officers also found a library card, a flashlight and gift cards from Dairy Queen, Subway and Zaxby’s. The meeting, the fourth of its type between the entities, took place at Central Georgia Technical College’s Milledgeville campus. A group discussion during the meeting focused on goals, needs and other opportunities when discussing transportation, housing, economic development and local resources. “The goal today is to wrap up the first phase of discussion where we talk about a lot of the goals, needs, opportunities and the action items that come out of that,” said Greg Boike, director of public administration for the Middle Georgia Regional SEE PLAN » A2 » OCONEE REGIONAL ORMC closer to merger deal with Navicent From staff reports A public hearing regarding a merger of Oconee Regional Health Systems Inc. and Macon-based Navicent health occurred on Wednesday, July 19 at the Oconee Regional Medical Center. The public hearing was hosted by the Georgia Attorney General’s office and provided the opportu nity for members of the community to address their opinions and concerns about the merger. On June 30, it was decided ORMC would be bought by Navicent Health, following a ruling issued at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of Georgia. However, under Georgia Law, a transfer of ownership and sale are not official until after a public hearing takes place. After the public hearing, a discussion of the day’s events occurred at other public meetings, including the monthly meeting of the Central State Hospital Local Redevelopment Authority, and meetings later that night by the ORHS board. CSHLRA Before starting on the meeting’s agenda, board Vice Chairman Dudley Rowe gave his thoughts on how the hearing went. “The first point is the community needs a hospital,” he said. ‘We have no choice but to have a hospital. The second point made...Navicent is the only game in town. The third point is we have to make this (merger) successful as a community.” Rowe said there was support for the merger from all different parts of the Milledgeville and Baldwin County communities and overall the testimony was SE HOSPITAL »A7 OCONEE REGIONAL HEALTH SYSTEMS » CENTRAL STATE HOSPITAL CSHLRA works on WIL PETTY wil@bbnews.today The Central State Hospital Local Redevelopment Authority met in the Powell Building on Wednesday, July 19 to discuss development plans for the next year and a half. According to documents from the meeting, the passage of Senate Resolution 228 has cleared the way for transfer of real estate at Central State Hospital for job creation. “The critical path of our project over the next 18 months will be complex and challenging but must be focused on tasks that allow maximum economic devel opment for Milledgeville and Baldwin County,” according to a document written by Michael Couch, executive director of the CSH Authority. The tasks mentioned are: property transfer, increasing the sources of revenue to allow self-sufficiency from local funding and strategic planning. The Georgia General Assembly passed the senate resolution in March of this year, and Sen. Burt Jones (R-Jackson) was a key sponsor. “That has given us the ground work and the framework to really starting to understand how we can move forward, very quickly, very neatly with conveyance of property,” Couch said. We’re ready to do that.” 18-month redevelopment plan Couch called the analysis a “30,000 foot view” of what he sees the board doing for the next 18 months.
