After a lackluster
end to John Milledge
Academy’s game versus
Trinity Dublin last week,
the Trojans were looking
to put a lot of points on
the board this week. And
that’s just what they did.
The Trojans started
quickly, as freshman
Amaad Foston broke
loose on a 34-yard run
on the first play from
scrimmage. Foston then
carried the ball in for a
5-yard touchdown run,
which was the freshman’s
first ever. The Trojans
defense then forced a
three-and-out, which
gave the team the ball
back.
From there, the Trojans
launched an eight-play
drive that ended with
a pass out to the flats
to senior wide receiver
Caleb Rogers who found
the end zone. This put
the Trojans up 14-0.
The Cougars of
Piedmont would again
attempt to advance the
ball down the field, but
freshman defensive back
Taylor Dixon intercepted
a Cougar pass.
On the very next play
junior quarterback
Brandon Bellflower again
found Rogers, this time
for a forty-yard touch
down pass. The extra
point was good by Hunter
Noles. The Trojans went
up 21-0. On the next
Cougar series, the Trojans
forced a punt.
After getting the ball
in good field position,
the Trojans put together
a five play, 4 6-yard drive
that ended with a six-yard
Foston touchdown. On
the following kick off,
Piedmont failed to get on
a perfectly placed pooch
kick by Noles that was
eventually recovered by
Josh Chapman. Two plays
later Foston again found
the end zone. That put
the Trojans up 35-0 at the
end of the first quarter.
Again, the defense for
the Trojans prevailed
as Brandon Hunnicutt
intercepted a pass on the
first play of the second
half. The Trojans took
over in their own terri
tory. A few plays later
Bellflower found Senior
Dustin Hostetter for a
nine-yard touchdown.
On the Cougars’ next
drive, Taylor Dixon again
picked off a piedmont
pass.
The Trojans did quick
work and Bellflower
found Rogers again for
his third touchdown
reception of the night.
The Trojans defense
showed why they are
considered one of the best
in the state after forcing a
fumble that was eventu
ally recovered by Blake
Jackson.
On the ensuing drive
Justin Aldridge found the
back of the end zone after
a two-yard touchdown
run. The extra point was
good by Noles and the
Trojans went up 56-0 at
the half. In the second
half, the Junior Varsity
Trojans took the field and
looked as if they would
allow the first points
scored on the Trojans
since November of 2016.
After a goal line
stand and a long run
by Freshman Patrick
McDonel, the Trojans
were able to run out
the clock. The Trojans
pitched another shutout,
which was their third
straight this season.
“It’s a total team effort.”
Head Coach J.T. Wall said
after the game. “Coach
(Justin) Mills and Coach
(Stan) Sheppard, they do
a great job getting these
guys lined up and ready
to play.” Foston lead the
team with an unofficial
138 yards rushing and
three touchdowns.
Rogers lead the team in
receiving yards with 103
and 3 touchdowns.
Bellflower was unof
ficially 7-for-10 with 141
yards. The Trojans travel
to Sandersville next week
to take on Brentwood.
Kick-off is set for 8 p.m.
on Friday, Sept. 1.
