Friday, Sept. 1, all day Goodwill will join Macon Beer Company in celebrating the new Georgia law allowing brewers and distillers to sell their products directly to consumers with a ceremonial "First Pint Pour" event, a fundraiser benefiting Goodwill's job training and career development services. Current Georgia law allows breweries to only offer small samples to customers who pay to tour their facilities. The long-sought new law eliminates the tour requirement and instead will allow breweries to sell directly to consumers for on- and on-premises consumption. Breweries around the state will celebrate Sept. 1 by pouring and serving their first legal pints of beer since the end of Prohibition. To commemorate the historic occasion, Goodwill and Ma con Beer Co. are selling tickets to award one lucky winner the first pint poured at Macon's first modern brewery. In addition, the winner will receive a Chef's Table dinner for eight at Edgar's Bistro, a $500 value. In addition, each raffle ticket purchased will allow one person free admission to Macon Beer's final tasting and tour on Aug. 31. The drawing for the raffle will be held at 7 p.m. Thurs day, Aug. 31, during the final tasting and tour at Macon Beer Co., 342 Oglethorpe St. in downtown Macon. The winner will be celebrated at the First Pint Pour on Friday, Sept. 1, with a ribbon-cutting by the Macon-Bibb Cham ber of Commerce at 3 p.m., followed by the pouring of the first pint at 3:30 p.m. at Macon Beer Co., 342 Oglethor pe St., in downtown Macon.
