According to the narrative written by Milledgeville Police Officer David Descoteaux, a vehicle containing Andre Warren of Evans and Cameron Humphrey of Macon was stopped for going 57 in a 35 mph zone. “Upon walking up to the driver side door, I immediately smelled the odor of marijuana coming from inside the passenger compartment of the vehicle,” Descoteaux wrote in the narra tive. “All parties inside the vehicle denied any marijuana being in the car, but admitted by head nod that they had recently smoked marijuana. According to the narrative, Descoteaux checked the vehicle and found a joint that had recently been smoked. The day is dedicated for the social and economic achievements of the American workers. At Jarrell, Labor Day was celebrated Saturday with a look at how things once were during its Labor Day Lolklore Lestival. “It’s great for the community because they are able to come out here and see stuff that isn’t quite familiar to them,” Christina Orr, curator at Jarrell Plantation, said. “Life isn’t the same as it used to be for sure, so they are able to see how people used to cook and things.” John Litz Jarrell built many of the SEE JARRELL »A9 » EDUCATION BOE votes to roll back millage rate CARRIE MOON carrie@bbnews.today The Baldwin County Board of Education voted unanimously to roll back the district’s millage rate during its meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 30. Linance director for Baldwin County School district Byron Schueneman presented a millage rate resolution to the board of education last Wednesday. Schueneman explained that the district receives consolidation sheets from the tax commissioner’s office each year, in which he is shown the overall value of the county’s digest and the value of properties. “In order to keep our budgeted revenues flat (what we consider revenue neutral), we have to roll back our tax - millage - rate that we’re going to apply towards that net digest seen on the consolidation sheets,” Schueneman said. Since 2016, there has been a signifi cant increase in the overall property that is taxable in Baldwin County in the amount of $127 million. A decision to do so came on the heels of three public hearings held throughout the previous week because of the additional revenue that would be generated. A revenue neutral millage rate in Baldwin County would have been 9.06 mills. “By adopting the millage rate today, the Tax Commissioner will have adequate time to deliver the digest to the Department of Revenue for approval so that the bills may be mailed by SE COUNTY »A9 WIL PETTY wil@bbnews.today Baldwin County citizens came out in force on Tuesday, Sept. 5, to discuss the need of a swimming pool in the community. Approximately 50 people were on hand at the Baldwin County Board of Commissioners meeting, many of which came to focus on a potential pool. A public pool ran by the county was closed in 2012. However, it has been planned for a pool to return to the community eventually. “At the time we did not have the money,” Chairman Sammy Hall said to the audience regarding the pool’s closing.
