The Trojans would go on to win 56-9. LOGAN CROSBY Contributor John Milledge Academy is well on its way to another region champion ship. J.T. Wall’s Trojans defeated rival Westfield for the second season in a row Friday night 56-9. On JMA’s second drive, the offense came to life. On the first play of the drive, quarterback Brandon Bellflower hit wide receiver Dustin Hostetter for a 37-yard pick up. The next play the tandem connected again for a 15-yard pick up and garnered the Trojans’ first touchdown of the night. The extra point was good and the Trojans went up 7-0. On Westfields next drive, senior defensive back Brandon Hunnicutt was flagged for a personal foul after he made contact with a Westfield wide receiver. Later in the drive the Trojans forced a fumble, recovered by senior Blake Jackson. On the next play Bell flower again found Hostet ter on a 32-yard catch and another score for the Trojans. After the PAT the Trojans were up 14-0. However, on the follow ing kickoff, the Westfield Hornets took the ball all the way back to the end zone ending the Trojans five game shutout streak. The Hornets missed the extra point which made the score 14-6. A few drives later running back Aulandreus Jackson took the ball 55 yards deep into Hornet territory. The Hornets would hold and would force the Trojans to attempt a fourth-down conversion. Bellflower attempted to find Jared Prestwood in the back of the end zone for a touch down, but the referee would say that Prestwood was out of the back of the end zone when he caught the ball. After the turnover on downs, Hostetter knocked the ball loose from a Westfield wide receiver and recovered the fumble. On the next Trojan drive, Bellflower found Hostetter for a 17-yard gain. On the first play of the second quarter, Bellflower found Caleb Rogers for a 30-yard touchdown. The Trojans would take a 21-6 lead. The Hornets converted a thirty-one-yard field goal a few minutes later but JMA came out firing. Bellflower found Rogers again for a 50-yard touch down pass and made it 28-9. JMA forced a three- and-out and drove the ball in again as Bellflower found Hostetter for an 18-yard touchdown pass. Early in the second half, Freshman Taylor Dixon intercepted a Hornet pass and took it 46 yards to their endzone. That put JMA up 42-9. Later in the third quarter, kicker Hunter Noles would make a 2 5-yard field goal. With about 9 minutes left in the fourth quarter, JMA’s Josh Chapman forced a fumble that was picked up by Senior Evan Galloway who sprinted 26 yards to the end zone. This was Chapman’s first touchdown of his varsity career. That put JMA up 52-9. After the game, Bell flower said his team had CONTRIBUTED/Logan Crosby a good offensive perfor mance. “My receivers made me look good,” he said. “Our defense showed up and showed out like always.” Bellflower, a junior said the team has to respect all opponents they face, because as defending champions, there is a target on their backs. The Trojans kick-off at 7:30 against undefeated Briarwood, from Warren- ton, on Friday, Sept. 22 for Homecoming. » GMC PREP Bulldogs defeat Patriots 36-19 » UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA UGA wins again, now 3-0 MARK SMITH JR./Staff D'Andre Swift, a freshman tailback, plows his way into the end zone to score a touchdown during Georgia's 42-14 win over the Samford Bulldogs. OWEN CALDWELL Contributer The Georgia Military College Prep School Bulldogs earned a road win against the Ogletho rpe County Patriots on Friday, Sept. 15. The GMC Prep Bulldogs returned to action after their impromptu bye week by traveling to Crawford and earning a 36-19 victory over the Ogletho rpe County Patriots. Oglethorpe County took the opening kickoff and got off to a hot start, as the team imme diately flew down the field, largely thanks to a 69-yard touchdown run on a quarterback draw by Jackson Caldwell. The GMC offense quickly went three and out, and the Patriots took over from its own 16-yard line. They gained two first downs on their first three plays of the drive, and the next play the Patriots took an option play 35-yards to the GMC 29. It looked like they were destined to go up two scores early but a fumbled snap set them back 15 yards and they GMC defense forced a punt which was downed at the goal line. The GMC offense started clicking as two big plays, a 25-yard run by Malik Foston and two plays later, a 28-yard run by JaVez Mason, took the Bulldogs to the Ogletho rpe 42. After two first downs, Foston took a jet sweep 17-yards and tied the game at 7 with 1:15 to go in the first quarter. The Patriots quickly responded after a failed onside kick by GMC gave Oglethorpe great field position, going 55 yards in four plays to put the team on top, although a missed extra point made it only 13-7. The Bulldogs took over from the GMC 34, and a 25-yard pass to Jalen Milner, a 10-yard run, and a quick pass to DeShon- dre Liggins put GMC at the 16-yard line and in prime position to score. It looked like they had the score on another Foston run, but it was called back SEEGMC»B3 JUSTIN HUBBARD justin@bbnews.today The Georgia Bulldogs scored their most points in the Kirby Smart era last Saturday against Samford in a 42-14 victory. Georgia (3-0) was once again led by its stingy defense. The Bulldogs from Athens only allowed 249 total yards to the Bulldogs from Birming ham, Alabama. Samford only picked up 23 rushing yards and most of those came in the fourth quarter. Roquan Smith again racked up the tackles, finishing with six, the most for Georgia. Samford went just 4-for-ll on third down opportunities with Georgia forcing five punts. After the game, Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart said the defenders’ aggression - plus their talent - makes the defense a strong unit. “The defense has con fidence in the system,” Smart said. “They’re playing really hard and physical and we haven’t had a lot of injuries. We’ve been able to develop some depth and that helps with the spirit and the camara derie when a lot of people get to play. If you play hard, you’ve got a chance. Throw in good players and that makes it easier.” The Bulldogs excelled on offense, too. Georgia picked up 459 total yards and 22 first downs. Through their first two games against Appa lachian State and Notre Dame, the Bulldogs only had 34 first downs, so last week’s performance was certainly an improvement. A big reason behind Georgia’s offensive success was its rushing attack. Senior Nick Chubb had a day to remember, carrying the ball 16 times for 131 yards and two touchdowns. Freshman D’Andre Swift recorded nine carries and picked up 54 yards and one score. Quarterback Jake Fromm had the best performance of his young career. The freshman, who made his second career start, went 8-of-13 with 165 yards passing and three touchdowns. Bulldogs tight end Jeb Blazevich spoke to members of the media this past Monday during Geor gia’s weekly press gather ing in Athens. Blazevich was asked about Fromm’s work so far this season. He didn’t hold back his praise for the rookie. “I’m so proud of him,” Blazevich said. “He is an awesome guy and has a crazy, hard work ethic. He just wants to be the leader SEE DAWGS» B3 AAAA- Region 3 standings GISA - 4AAA Standings A - Region 7B standings Burke County 4-0 Thomson 3-0 Baldwin 3-1 Academy of Richmond County 3-1 Cross Creek 2-2 Hephzibah 2-2 John Milledge Academy 5-0 Gatewood 5-0 Augusta Prep Day 4-0 Westminster Schools of Augusta 3-2 Westfield School 1-4 Georgia Military College 3-1 Greene County 2-2 Lincoln County 1-2 Aquinas 1-2 Washington-Wilkes 1-2 Hancock Central 0-3 Warren County 0-4 Glascock County 0-5
