CM K Your hometown newspaper for Milledgeville and Baldwin County, Georgia. » CRIME Man remains on the run from cops STAFF REPORTS A man who was sentenced to 10 years on probation several months ago once again is in trouble with the law, this time accused of “fighting” with a sher iffs deputy and fleeing on foot. Fredlando Montavious Justice, 25, was still on the run as of press time Wednesday. He is facing charges of obstruction of an officer and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. Justice and another man were pulled over near the Elbert Street/Vinson Highway forks late last week. That’s when Justice reportedly began scuf fling with a deputy and bolting from the scene, disappearing from sight around Cline Avenue. Justice in August was sentenced to 10 years on proba tion for aggravated assault, felony theft by receiving, posses sion of a synthetic cannabinoid and possession of a firearm or knife during the possession of a crime. In May of this year, mean while, a woman relayed to officers that Justice came over to her house and destroyed several items, including a television. Justice also was arrested in 2016 and charged with aggravated assault following an incident at Rod’s Stop and Shop. In 2014, meanwhile, he was arrested and charged with armed robbery, false imprison ment and affray. When German shepherd Falco won “K9 of the Year” earlier this week, his reward was Chick-fil-A nuggets. Indeed, it’s one of those situ ations where everyone is cele brating but the animal, who’d rather not deal with the pomp and circumstance. “Falco really isn’t all that social. He probably is just ready for things to get back to normal,” said Milledgeville Police Department Officer Line Boyer, Falco’s handler. Falco, who turned 4 this week, beat out 99 other police dogs to win the Georgia Police K9 Foundation’s 2018 “K9 of the Year” award. A surgically reattached arm to one of the ornamental toy soldiers downtown was snatched off and stolen at some point Saturday, MORE SOLDIER »A7 »IMPROVEMENTS » MILLEDGEVILLE Housing authority moving forward on renovations WIL PETTY wil@bbnews.today Representatives from the City of Milledgeville, the Milledgeville Housing Authority and other contributors to a massive $2.3 million project came together at Habersham Homes on Monday, Dec. 10 to announce the kickoff of renovations and improvements to the neighborhood. “This is a very proud moment for me,” said Carrie Jarrett, vice chairman of the MH A board. “From the time I was appointed by the then mayor, I have done everything I could to influence and work with the commissioners and everyone to improve the housing at the Milledgeville Housing Authority.” The project, funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, will renovate all 149 housing units in Habersham and Wray homes. “We are finally at the point where we are going to have a project going to actually show our residents that we are sincere about improving the housing here,” Jarrett said. Fyffe Construction, an MORE HOUSING »A9 City Council discusses stormwater fund WIL PETTY wil@bbnews.today On Tuesday night, during the Milledgeville City Council’s work session, conversations continued in regards to a stormwater fund for city residents. Courtney Reich, owner of Ecological Planning Group, projected the fund would garner close to $720,000 in its first year for the city if approved. At that point, general fund money could be used for other projects while the stormwater fund would be storm drainage and other related public works projects. “Were moving from looking at the feasibility of the utility to moving into implementation,” Reich said. A stormwater fund is nothing new in the state of Georgia. As of 2018, 60 cities in Georgia have these funds including Griffin, Americus, Albany and Statesboro. City council would have to approve a set rate for the enterprise fund, as well as approve having one in the first place.
