The Braves are 7-2 on the season and ranked No. 49 in the state, according to MaxPreps. The started 2-2 with losses to Jones County and Washington County and victories over Hancock Central and Dublin. Since then, the team has won five in a row including home matches against Northside-Warner Robins, Warner Robins, Wilkinson County and Greenbrier. The team also traveled to Sparta to rematch Hancock Central, a match ending in a 67-61 victory. The boys team during the break will travel to Allatoona High School in Cobb County to participate in the Lake City Classic Tournament. The Bravettes, meanwhile are on a four-game winning streak after starting its 2018-19 campaign 2-3. Like the Braves, the girls lost to Jones County and WaCo, while beating Hancock Central and Dublin in its first four games. The lone difference comes at the hands of Northside- Warner Robins. The Eagles bested the Bravettes 51-46. Since then, the Bravettes have won all their games by 9 or more points to Hancock Central, Warner Robins, Wilkinson County and Greenbrier. The girls squad will also be partici pating in a holiday tournament. From Dec. 27-29, the Bravettes will play in the Evans Monterrey Classic at Evans High School in Columbia County. After the break, both squads will start in on region play with occasional out-of-conference opponents sprinkled in. On Friday, the teams hosted Mount De Sales out of Macon, and on Saturday the teams made the short trip to Eatonton to take on the Gatewood Gators. The Lady Trojans dominated the Lady Cavs of MDS, beating them by a final score of 50-15. Many young players got an opportu nity to play in the game. “I’m proud of the way everyone played tonight. It feels great to get a win before going to play Gatewood”, said Senior Susie Braddy about Friday night’s performance. The boy’s game was anything but a blow-out. The Trojans and Cavs battled it out all the way to the end. The Trojans came out victorious by a final of52-43. The Trojans found themselves down after the first quarter by a score of 8 to 16 after Mount De Sales shooter went 4-for-4 on three pointers. The Trojans then found their rhythm in the second quarter. Patrick McDonel and Cole Compton combined for 9 of the Trojans 16 second quarter points. The half time score was 28-24 in favor of MDS. The Trojans came out revamped in the second half of play. Jared Prestwood had 6 points in the third quarter. The Trojans as a team scored 15 points in the quarter FREE Inspections! With less than two minutes left, the score was a close 45-43 with the Trojans ahead. The Cavs just couldn’t keep their cool. In the last 44 seconds Mount De Sales committed two tech nical fouls. Parker Blenk would go a perfect 6 for 6 when taking the free throws. The clock then ran out and the Trojans came away victorious with a 52-43 victory. The next day, the Trojans drove over to Eatonton to face rivals Gatewood. The Gators are no longer in the same region as JMA after they dropped to AA. The Lady Trojans came away with a huge win. Seniors Susie Braddy, Maddie Chambers and Juliann Dyer combined for 44 of the Lady Trojans 50 points. Chambers lead all scorers with 24 points, Dyer scored 11 and Braddy had 9 points. Though the Lady Gators tried to make it a game near the end, the Lady Trojans would take the win 50-37. The boys game followed, and JMA would again dominate in all aspects of the game. The Trojans coming off a big win the night before were looking for another big victory in their so far impressive season. They would not disappoint. The Trojans would win big by a final score of 48-27. The Trojans will play in the State Bank Holiday Classic in Jones County Dec. 20-22. The Trojans will then host a Holiday Tournament on December 28-29.
