From Dec. 10-14, families from Central Georgia and other areas came to enjoy the Milledgeville Polar Express Trolley Line. Tickets sold out quickly, at $15 a person. This year, Milledgeville Main Street opted to also allow people to buy tickets online rather than in the office. Attendees start by going to the MMS office to pick up their golden ticket for the ride. The staff were dressed for the occasion, with MMS’s Deana Thornton and Milledgeville City Planner Hank Griffeth even participating in the ride itself. After a short wait, the sound of a roaring train echoes through the MMS Office as Conductor Griffeth tells everyone to have their tickets ready for the ride. The trolley was filled to the brim as families were ready to enjoy the trip. On this particular trip, families had trav eled from as far as South Carolina to ride the trolley. After a short recap of trolley rules, mainly to not touch the yellow wire as everyone would go flying, everyone was ready for the journey. All the while, children are entertained by listening to an audio book version of the classic tale “Polar Express.” Once the story ends, the passengers’ golden tickets are clipped and everyone is given jingle bells for a holiday sing- along before reaching Santa’s Workshop at Codee Rainey Designs. Everyone gets to take the bells home. The previous year, the final stop was at the Milledgeville-Baldwin County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau Building. But due to the popularity of the event, as well as how tight spaces were at the CVB building, organizers opted to move to the new location. Once there, children were able to visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus, as well as elves to discuss their Christmas wish- lists. Afterwards there were coloring activities available, decorations to view and free hot chocolate and cookies to devour. Overall, the event takes about 40 minutes from start to finish. Times slightly vary depending on red lights and how long children want to stay in the workshop. planning department and water department.
