CM K THURSDAY, DECEMBER 20,2018 | A3 » Baldwin County's hometown newspaper I Baldwin Bulletin » BALDWIN COUNTY Commissioners support 1-14 WIL PETTY wil@bbnews.today The Baldwin County Board of Commissioners has nowjoined the Milledgeville City Council and other area governments in expressing support for extending Interstate 14 through much of the Deep South, including Georgia. The Interstate, which right now connects Fort Hood to Interstate 35 in Texas, is proposed to run from Interstate 10 in West Texas, to Interstate 20 in Augusta. The route would also be called the “14th Amendment Highway” and connect several military instal lations throughout the South. INTERSTATE Commissioners unan imously approved the resolution on Tuesday, Dec. 18. The resolution was previously brought up at the Dec. 4 meeting, but didn’t receive a second due to lack of information about the project. In Georgia, the route is proposed to follow the Fall Line Freeway, which runs through Baldwin County. County Manager Carlos Tobar said work in our county would be minimal, requiring the construction of a few on ramps and increasing the speed limit to interstate standards. “The Georgia Department of Transportation, according to what we were told, will be respon sible for upgrading the Fall Line Freeway, if it goes through our community, into an Interstate,” Tobar said. “It would not fall on Baldwin County.” The proposed route would run from Augusta, through Baldwin County to Macon and on to Columbus. Once crossing into Phenix City, Ala. the route would go through Montgomery and Selma before going through communities in Mississippi, Louisiana and East Texas. Other cities of note on the route include College Station, Texas, home of Texas A&M, Alexandria, La., Natchez, Miss, and Meridian, Miss. The route would also give many travelers a more rural alternative to Interstates 10 and 20, which go through major traffic areas such as Atlanta, Dallas, Houston and New Orleans. Tobar said the resolu tion was requested by the interstate supporters to ensure there would not be opposition to the route going through Baldwin County. The Milledgeville City Council passed the reso lution on Sept. 14. GRILL CONTINUED FROM >: A1 phenomenal,” Taylor said. The Reel Grill’s tenta tive menu already is posted on its Facebook page.
