is there a connection
between heart health
and hearing loss?
Carmen Wright, Au.D.
Studies have shown that
a healthy cardiovascular
system—a person’s heart,
arteries, and veins—has a
positive effect on hearing.
Conversely, inadequate
blood flow and trauma to
the blood vessels of the
inner ear can contribute
to hearing loss.
According to a study
in older adults, the
prevalence of suffering
from various degrees of
hearing loss is 54% greater
among those who have a
history of heart disease
than in the general
population.

An old local holiday
tradition was rekindled
this month.
The Powell Building
at Central State
Hospital was lit up with
a moving LED lights
display, while decora
tions and ornaments
were placed along the
front lawn.
Organizers are hoping
that “this is only the
beginning” and plan to
expand the display in
the coming years.
“For many years,
Central State was
always decked out for
the holidays, and it was
a big part of Christmas
in this community for
a long time,” said City
Councilman and event
co-organizer Walter
Reynolds. “We are
dedicated to bringing it
back.”
Reynolds ultimately
hopes to line each of the
pecan trees along the
campus’ 12-acre pecan
orchard with lights, as
well as expanding the
lights display and deco
rations to surrounding
buildings. Citizens Bank
of the South was this
year’s primary sponsor.
“It will take a lot of
folks in the community.
We need more people
and more sponsors,”
Reynolds said. “We
really want to make this
something special for
the community.”
Any interested indi
vidual, civic group
or business can call
Reynolds at 478-363-
3684 or make contact
on the Grove Events
Center’s Facebook page.
